Panackelty

It’s crazy how different peoples can be, my aunties was watery with carrots and black pudding, my Nana’s is pretty thick with gravy granules and corn beef, two very different things yet called the same.

Ban him for this.
It’s true mate. There’s no way that sauce is the same as it used to be. I hadn’t had it for years and it seemed like a very vinegary cheap condiment of the standard of like an Aldi Home Brand brown sauce. It wasn’t good. Saying that there’s no decent brown sauces about these days. I’ve tried loads and there’s been issues with all of them.

Can't disagree with you at all tbh mate.

An off the wall suggestion, but what about Levi Roots Reggae Reggae sauce ?

In my view, it isn't worth bothering with in its own right, as it seems to be little more than a slightly fruitier and spicier brown chop sauce. An experiment wouldn't cost much though, since it is regularly on special in Aldi or Lidl (another clue that it hasn't achieved unequivocal mainstream success). However, in the absence of an adequate condiment to replace chop sauce, it may find its place as a panaculty complement.

Stokes do a canny brown sauce, doesn’t have any of the artificial aftertaste and sweetness others we’ve tried have. Their ketchup is really nice too, even though my lass still prefers the Heinz, so we’ve always got the two in the fridge.

Aye that’s not too bad. Bit fruity but one of the better ones.

I used to use corned beef in panackelty but it's not the same anymore, I don't think.

I changed it up to use mince and plenty of onion, plus sliced potatoes and a finely chopped white cabbage, plus oxo's and a tad of goldenfry beef gravy thickener.

Sometimes I'll add dumplings on the hob in a pan or add them in the oven to crisp...or sometimes not at all.
A few slices of nicely buttered bread, salt and pepper and away I go.
A tasty and cheap meal when you can feed 3 and get 2 days worth out of it.
Always better the next day.

Quality bait.

Discuss.
Absolutely brilliant, end of discussion!

My mam made it and when she went I thought I’d never have it again, turns out our lass does it even better, I find it great hangover and comfort food.

Corned beef and burnt sliced potatoes on top, right getting her to make some today.
