Exactly this. I don't remember a referendum or peoples' vote on VAR, but I do remember Sky football pundits screaming and arguing for it. Perhaps Sky thought they may have an input into it, with their technology, to get even more control over the game. Feckin Sky started all this shite, having a multitude of cameras placed around the pitch, which made the refs job impossible.‘People’ didn’t want that though. They wanted obvious offsides and penalties given correctly....not an extension of a secondary school geometry class.
When they have to draw vertical lines on the pitch with a computer to see if his big toenail was offWhat constitutes doubt?
Too close to call. What constitutes doubt?
What a load of willies

But it’s not what the people wanted, I have never wanted var, but even the people that were wanting it they wanted it based on clear and obvious errors not a nats pube offside decision, people keep saying it’s what we wanted to justify it, but this is never what people wanted

Two things missing:So many people have totally missed the big picture here. You bring in vague directives like this and you end up with huge inconsistencies which would get people even more irate. It has to be fine margins.
Don't get your knickers in a twist. How else would you define doubt exactly?'too close to call'
Brilliant. That clears it all up.
I actually don’t mind VAR, it’s the way the offsides are being decided that’s a joke.

The point is you wouldn't use replays for something so marginal. The you get a goal being ruled out which is less offside on the replay than one that is given. Can you imagine the hysterics from fans, managers and pundits.

And we're talking about how to use VAREh? I'm talking about TV replays.
And we're talking about how to use VAR
Makes sense. We're back to the purpose of it though. If it's to get the right decision, you'd have someone monitoring constantly and talking to the ref. If it's to help the ref then, as in Rugby, he should be able to ask if there's a reason not to give the decision. The offside thing surely just has to follow the lbw cricket format. Tell the linesman to flag as normal and give an agreed margin either side where the linesman‘s call is upheld. Say a foot or whatever is appropriate
Just cancel the offside rule there'll be no arguments but plenty of goals! What to though that’s the problem? They’ve committed to a ‘right or wrong’ system when deciding offsides, no arguments it either is or isn’t. So if they change it to allowing human error, one side is benefiting from an incorrect decision and one is suffering.
It's what people wanted. If you are going to go down the VAR route if you are 1cm offside you are offside simple as that

VAR is by and large good for the game, I like it
