Probs not much help now but I use a second bank account for online shopping. I don't keep any money in it and transfer from my main account so the card I use only has what's needed in it for the purchase

I wouldnt make any online purchases via debit card full stop. Credit card is the only thing thats used.

Yes you can, it’s fraud no matter what you say. If it’s pending then they can stop it!

and if he has be done before then he should change banks. They are not protecting him.
No you can’t.

If he’s been done before he’s using his card in areas or websites that have been compromised. Bank will have issued new cards each time its happened. Not the banks fault. But you seem to have some form of agenda against them.

Can you link me to some information where it states any bank can raise a fraud claim or stop an approved payment?

I do work for one yeah
A fraud claim can be raised at any point. Just because your book says otherwise, it doesn’t make it impossible. there is absolutely nothing stopping it apart from their own policy

a bank can also stop an approved payment. If it was clear anti money laundering, terrorist funding, sanction breaching then they have an obligation to do so. Just because this is a minor fraud, it doesn’t mean they have an inability to do so. Their policy will just say they won’t

as I found out. You escalate this and you get answers. Most banks are utterly shoddy around AML and KYC.

I'm paranoid about this kind of thing, even to the point of only using barclays atms. I never buy from strange websites..
So its being investigated as fraud, I should get the money back within 24 hours. Only problem is as my card was cancelled last night and a new one authorised by opening a fraud claim it automatically cancels the card on my account, which means the new one won't work so I have to wait for the second one to arrive.. Not the best time of year to be without a card.. Glad its kind of sorted tho.

I bank with Barclays and this is from their site.

Pending transactions

"If you don’t recognise a transaction that’s showing as ‘pending’ in your Barclays Mobile Banking or Online Banking, under Visa’s regulations, we won’t be able to investigate it until it has been made and appears in your account activity. This is because there isn’t enough available information for an investigation while a transaction is pending."

That’s standard jargon. They absolutely can. Because a) they can determine what the authorisation method was b) they have an obligation under anti money laundering regulations to not process payments such as these. You’ve told them it’s suspicious, they now have an obligation

It's a Visa regulation.

If you know what's what you know banks can't put misleading information on their website

It’s not misleading in that it’s the minimum they can do.

they can do more, those just choose not to

As I have said before the level of incompetence astounds me sometimes, I had to explain AML to one of my banks, they didn’t even know what I meant. So I read them their own website

So if there was a page on the FCA website saying there is nothing that can be done with pending transactions would you then believe it?

Seeing as you did say threaten with them earlier

So the bank refunded the money on friday and i got my new card on the saturday. Then today at 12:05am & 12:08am i get texts from barclays. The first saying they will text me on ***** with a question, i get the second and they want me to reply either Y or N to the question have i used kurt geiger ltd? Replied N as ive never heard of it and they rang me at 20 past 12 ffs. I suffer from anxiety so im worried sick and on hold wondering if this all legit? I hung up before speaking to anyone. Why would they text me just after midnight? I googled the phone number and saw a number checker on barclays site so checked it and it said the number was safe.. im going to ring them in the morning and im also going to complain contacting people at that late hour is stupid. I probably wont sleep because of the anxiety.. needed a rant, sorry for the long post.

It's a fraud prevention text, probably due to your recent issues.

Why would they wait to text? Seems daft you are going to complain about the time they text, fraud waits for no man.

If they didn't text I bet you would complain
