Why would they text me just after midnight?
because i suspect that whomever has stolen your details was trying to buy something from kurt geiger online (its a shoe shop btw) just after midnight... as you've flagged this up before the automated process will kick-in whether its office hours or the middle of the night.

So the bank refunded the money on friday and i got my new card on the saturday. Then today at 12:05am & 12:08am i get texts from barclays. The first saying they will text me on ***** with a question, i get the second and they want me to reply either Y or N to the question have i used kurt geiger ltd? Replied N as ive never heard of it and they rang me at 20 past 12 ffs. I suffer from anxiety so im worried sick and on hold wondering if this all legit? I hung up before speaking to anyone. Why would they text me just after midnight? I googled the phone number and saw a number checker on barclays site so checked it and it said the number was safe.. im going to ring them in the morning and im also going to complain contacting people at that late hour is stupid. I probably wont sleep because of the anxiety.. needed a rant, sorry for the long post.
You’ll get fuck all off the back of a complaint. It’s fraud prevention measures. 24 hour 365 day a year department. If there’s a concerning payment you’ll be notified as soon as they notice it, regardless of time. Also millions of international customers who it won’t have been midnight for, should they need to wait and ring them because ira midnight in the UK?

Whoever had your previous card are still trying to use it, that’s why you’ve got the text.

I rang the bank and explained things. (didn't complain) she checked things and they tried using the cancelled card. She also gave me a direct phone number to call if this happens again. I also explained about my anxiety and she put a note on my account about it..

For extra protection on your account settings you can block online tractions etc if you never shop online

sorry. But you only want fraud to happy between 9-5pm ?

they text/ring when it happens, especially since you have got your account flagged. The world is a 24/7 these days. If you had stayed on the line it would have put your mind to rest.

it sound alike your card has got cloned from either a cash machine / local take away etc. Or online website breach
Unfortunately I do most of my shopping online.. I do only use trusted sites but as we know even those aren't 100% safe all of the time.

get your pc scanned with malware bytes and av product. Possibly reinstall it. If you have an android phone look for rouge apps.
Make sure you are not using a snide vpn or have rouge extensions in your web browser.

I have AVG on my phone and I regularly scan my Samsung tablet. I don't have a pc.
Aye well that's good, be careful clicking on any links in text messages or clicking on facebook videos / adverts too - these can have nasties embedded in the script etc. Other than that the card could have been skimmed from a shop / garage / restaurant or cashpoint.
I have my bank card in a RFID wallet to stop the thieves scanning my contactless anarl.

That's a good idea with the wallet. Mines seen better days so I'll have a look.

It’s not misleading in that it’s the minimum they can do.

they can do more, those just choose not to

As I have said before the level of incompetence astounds me sometimes, I had to explain AML to one of my banks, they didn’t even know what I meant. So I read them their own website

This annoys me as an MLRO for a gambling business the banks ultimately gave more insight into whether a transaction is genuine or not and seem. On the face of it to ve less stringently regulated in terms of AML compliance than law firms, online casinos, estate agents etc

Get a revolut card or something similar for online shopping where you aren't bothered about the additional credit card protection on your purchase. That way they can't spend more than your topped up balance if they try to.

On the back of OP mentioning about the text, and checking the number that called, fraudsters will very often spoof the number they're dialing from to be the banks main contact number... however this is an inbound number, and they do not call out on that number generally. So checking the number doesn't mean anything unless you're calling it yourself and not answering a call from it.

Even with SMS these days they can make it come through on the same SMS conversation as other genuine texts you may have received from your bank, asking you to reply Y or N. 99% of the time the customer has not made the transaction mentioned in the SMS (as the fraudsters have made it up) and so as a result people will instinctively reply N, triggering a call to you from "your banks fraud department" as they could see you replied N about this transaction and they need to confirm your details to "cancel the payment". All complete BS and fraud but that's the levels they go to now.
