England in NZ

England must be regretting going into this match without a spinner . That young leggie would have been interesting ,bowling on the last day .

Fair do's to Archer for laughing. I think I'd have punched Denly. Williamson had one of those 'shake my head, that didn't happen' looks. There's Def Leppard drummers who would have caught that blindfolded.

It hasn't turned at all
Low and slow better suited to spin than pace . NZ very susceptible against legspin.
Neither Joe Root or butterfingers are frontline bowlers .Doesn't really matter as downpour forecast after lunch unfortunately .
Seddon Park is a rubbish test venue .

It’s one of those that’s so easy it’s probably caught him by surprise but you simply cannot put them down at any level above pub league cricket.

You'd be hammered for it at pub level tbf.
Like I said yesterday, this is paint dry boring.

You don't need to man the barricades and defend test cricket all the time. It's the sport of kings but there are bad test matches, just as there are bad football matches, bad T20 games, whatever.

This is an awful test match. Terrible pitch and that Kookaburra ball needs binning off. Every ball and surface combination should offer swing imo: new ball swing on green tops, reverse when it's dry and dusty like in India or Pakistan and you've been at it for 50 overs. These Kookaburras offer neither, awful balls.

So what’s your squad for SA? (noting they are talking about bringing Jennings back for SL)

this XI plus Leach, Bairstow, Anderson and Wood?

Jennings? Give me strength man.

As you say, but with Ali too. And Mahmood instead of Wood perhaps. Is Wood fit? What about Stone? We need a battery of pace bowlers long-term and I'd sooner have Wood enjoy a real rest, we know about him. So I'd have a look at another.

Also, Buttler not Bairstow.

Yeah Ali will go

and I forgot Buttler. Guess Bairstow will replace Crawley then

I'd rather Bairstow was out for longer myself. I don't see much point bringing him as a water-carrier. Aye, Buttler is injured - but I also don't see why you can't then fly a keeper out. Or maybe get him playing cricket in South Africa, so he's around.

I'd want him to playing cricket tbh. Red-ball. He needs to work on a few technical things.

I also think the reaction to Pope is a bit knee-jerk. I'm not that arsed about having two keepers - you can always fly people out and I don't think Pope has been that bad. Not ideal for the lad, but it's not ideal to take a second keeper out just to carry bags.

I also think Crawley can bat up the order if - and looking at Sibley's issues, it's not hard to see this happening - we need someone capable of batting near the top.

Wood hasn't played since the world cup final, he's had 5 months off. What are you resting him for? T20 world cup?

Edit: sounds like I'm having a go at you, I'm not, just asking the questions ☺️

Had surgery though didn't he? I wouldn't rush him back until he's definitely fit, that's what I was implying. If he is, then he comes into the equation - but presumably he wasn't for New Zealand, so...

I honestly don't know whether he or Stone are fit. I'd want both in Australia, but we may need to find another quick - which would probably be Mahmood, so I'd like a look at him. In terms of ability it's probably Wood-Stone-Mahmood, though I do think Stone has a lot of potential if he can stay on the pitch for more than two consecutive games. Which, tbf, is Wood's problem too.
