The chore of going to the match

I didnt think it was great on Saturday, but it was nice to be back. I suppose having it week after week can knock the stuffing out of you.

Lets see what Parkinson has learned from Saturday, his starting 11 should tell us a lot

Sorry, marra. I normally take it all in my stride and don't let it bother me. Like you though I'm finding it difficult to gather any enthusiasm. I don't think it's just the last few months that have brought me to this point, but the last few years. I'm sure the buzz will return one day.

It's horrible. I have constant disagreements with a mate who won't have a word said against SD. I've watching us since 1980 and this is the worst it's been and I just don't see how they are going to get us out of this rut. I struggle to see how we are going to attract anyone of quality in January to turn this season around and another season in this league will cement us as the Fallen Giant, not just a Sleeping Giant. We will literally be just a run of the mill league one club (not just team).

I think so. It's a bit like when a relationship is going pear shaped and you need a break. Mind if people don't want to go then they shouldn't knock those who do and especially not make out it's those who do go that are holding us back.

everyone needs a break now and then, its understandable

Hes not like, granted the new seats made a big difference last season, but if you look closer it is looking very, very shabby. There are sections of bare metal in the roof structures now which need to be coated sooner rather than later or more damaging corrosion will set in, the floors are a mess, the concourses are shabby as owt, nothing ever looks clean. It is in a poor state. Once the team manages to restore some kind of pride in itself we should look at returning a great stadium to what it once was.
Aye it’s nee Fratton Park, now that is a f***ing shithole

Looking grim for tomorrow night judging by the comments here.
I'll be there but I live in Fulwell so it's walking distance for me.
Can't blame those who travel for not going.
Many fans have just had enough and we aren't even halfway though the season yet.

The buzz will return and you will love every minute when it does.

I get your feeling, ffs had years and years of going by playing the loyalty card, struggling to drive the distance, a shit team with players who didn’t care, nothing to play for, an empty stadium and so many failed promises.
Yet I kept going, defiant and sometimes I look back and think how I did it.
I guess supporting a smaller club there comes a feeling of “these fuckers won’t break me.” Been bloody close and remember a few games where I thought that’s it. Brighton at home, another failed takeover and looking into the abyss. I still remember like it was yesterday walking across the grass, floodlights were still on and thought the old gal is about to die. It’s then you realise that it’s the history, the time and the affection you have with the club and not the current crop of players or owners. They come and they go.

Shared many a Saturday night on here thoroughly pissed off after yet another disappointment. Ironically this is without doubt great times for us right now and I don’t allow the fact that our basement tenure will not to allow myself to enjoy it. For all I care we could be in a higher league. I guess when you are winning and playing a decent brand of football you can fall in love with it again.

Sunderland fans have a reputation for being loyal. Some of the posts on here, roll calls to Gillingham on a Tuesday night for example just make me respect your fans. It’s difficult I know that. Then there was Maximus and those that need others to carry that torch.

Keep the faith and I will keep saying it the big clubs come back and Sunderland will. In your case I really hope you do so very soon.

I’m really struggling to get up for the game tonight .
If it wasn’t for the youngest wanting to go bless him I think I’d be tuning into Safcsee

Personally I thought it was just as bad in the PL at times.
It got bad, O'Neill put the last nail in my season ticket coffin, didn't renew for his second season because of the turgid football we played, I still turned up on a match to match basis and we were competing in the top division, but now there's just no hope, no feeling of things turning round and you can't even watch a decent opposition dismantling us, it's shite teams that are not much better then a CIU team.

My main gripe with the stadium is that it's a bastard to get to. Shite parking all around the ground and the metros are crap.
I get parked within a 3-5 minutes walk of the stadium and have done the last couple of seasons now there is more spaces due to Less going👍

I’m not defending the garbage Football mind lol

I’ve been consistently through 15, 19 point seasons, the Moyes era, the championship relegation and all through last season (which I actually didn’t mind). But after the watching that on Saturday it’s done for me, countless long aimless hoofs and sitting back off Coventry and just allowing them the ball at home in the third tier ffs.

I was fully behind the owners until this Parkinson appointment, it’s sapped any enthusiasm from me. A man known for negative turgid anti football, with an average league one record and failure written all over him.

I’ll not be there tonight and I’m not sure I’ll be arsed to watch this whilst this clown is still in charge.

15;00 train from Edinburgh..cousin in Felling already text..fish n chips for tea..then out for pre-match pints...my shout for him putting me up overnight...been stopping over at his house for years now for mid-week games...Still something special about the whole trip...but can understand why there will be many empty seats tonight..just hope the team respond to those of us there....

I will be giving tonight a miss as I’m off to Spain tomorrow and I won’t be renewing next season if we are still in this league...which is looking like we will be...

You know what mate, Saturday's brand of whatever it was will have put a few off. I said on another thread that it was the worst football I've seen Sunderland play in that first half, in particular and I've seen some utter rubbish in my 35 years of going.
I've got to be at a new job in the morning so sacking it off tonight as sitting in the cold, watching that hold little appeal. Not one taker for my ST either.
