Unfortunately the two go hand in hand. If the finances aren’t there to invest in scouting, coaches, players wages, transfer fees etc then it makes life a lot more difficult to sort the football out.

In fairness, it was the owners who decided to open the Pandora’s box about football finances and transparency; only they opened it and haven’t been completely clear or transparent with their explanations

Yes, exactly.

Suffice to say that we don’t have a strategy and the financial state of the club is dubious to say the least. The feckless nature of the performances and all of the discord that follows is a reflection of this.

Of course they do, but from a football fans perspective I really don't care too much what is going on financially at the club as long as we don't go under. I go to watch the football and hopefully to see us win and that is what matters to me.

I guarantee if we were to string a few decent results together we'd have a lot less angry people here questioning the financial arrangements and trying to find inconsistencies in what the owners have said.

This is my hope, it’s not as if the stadium or academy hold prime real estate locations in London where demand is through the roof, this is Sunderland where any sort of progress is slow at best.
 
Donald said that the money( investment/loan) was going towards infrastructure including a new ticket office etc. He also mentioned the money would be used for recruitment which is the crux of the matter. Supporters are not too worried whether we have a nice new office with plush furniture or a beautifully painted dressing room, it’s what happens on the pitch that really matters. Supporters turn up in their thousands to be entertained and enjoy the occasion. This hasn’t happened for an unbelievable amount of time (on a consistent basis), so in my view the priority is good recruitment not bollocks like new lifts etc. Let’s get it right on the pitch first!

Main negativity is where it matters, on the Fookin pitch....win games and nee one gives a Fook....they seem content with the footy side....

Yeah but like Murray b4, fixed assets are king even when not needed ie the extension.

Stewart and Methven - go back on your plans with FFP to invest in bricks, mortar, integrated club shop etc. It's bollocks. Your finish line goal is to achieve promotion through the playing squad. Historically, one goal scoring player can make the difference....then spunk the money ahem increased on RoCe strategic repeatable revenue build etc. If what you say is true and you loose £20mn, investing in infrastructure will be the quickest route to oblivion..do the finer things later... You have been waaaaarnd, you have undersestimated the fans, who will chase you out of the club if we don't get promotion this season, after YOU set the expectation.

Also ditch your PR...

Completely agree RE the first point.

Re the second, we don’t have to look too hard to find those inconsistencies though. They can literally say something one day, and then something will be revealed shortly after to contradict that. I

I don't mind financial interrogation from people who understand what the finances mean and can explain it, it's the constant stream of people inferring stuff from them and then going off making personal attacks that's the issue.

Firstly, there’s nothing wrong with the current ticket office.

Secondly, fewer and fewer will be using the new ticket office if results and performances persist as they have.

Which thirdly, actually suggest further downsizing. The new ticket office will probably be stuck in the club shop and the old ticket office building will be sold off, or they’ll use it as Bridle Insurance HQ or some bollocks like that.

Well he should have sold at the quoted price - I think he was trying to squeeze future payments out of them if we went up. It was in his grasp but he let it slip away.
