Is there one black comedian

What's racist about saying a negative thing about all black people? Are you serious?

It's pretty much the first paragraph in the dictionary definition of racism.

The thing is though I do think it is a different humour. A lot of story telling type of routines you find funny cos its something you can relate to. So im going to relate to a working class northerner more than say a Londoner with a West Indies upbringing & find their stuff funnier.

Also I dont get American stand ups (again for above reason), im also not a lover of their shouty style. The good black comics listed previously I really dont find funny. I like Eddie Murphy & Richard prior as comic actors but cannot get away with their stand up.

id imagine middle class southerners probably didnt get Bobby Thompson

It shouldn't really be surprising since comedy is often a hub of counter culture, and especially since segregation is very much still in living memory in America then black comedians are bound to make comedy out of race and racial issues.

Loads.

Nikki Glaser's latest special is mainly about how she's a dirty bitch.

Aye the way that started I knew it wasn't gonna be subtle. Not bad tbh although I rarely enjoy female comics, I think it's a perspective thing.
found that clip there very disgusting and offensive, not seen the rest of it

Fair enough. In that case maybe try Russell Howard and Michael McIntyre?

Whitney Cummings is decent too. There are plenty of decent female comics, there are just a lot more decent male comics.

Not a fan of Millican but she has an audience she appeals to, if I'm watching a special of hers with the Mrs she'll be pissing herself every few minutes, I'll get maybe one laugh out of it. Plenty of comedies have me in stitches where she'll barely laugh.

I liked Whitney's latest one with the sex doll, she was good on Joe Rogan's podcast as well.

Other than that, I've watched Iliza Schlesinger (wad), Katherine Ryan, Ali Wong and Kathleen Madigan, thought they were all shite.

Don't think much of Iliza or Wong, Ryan has her moments, never seen Madigan.

Although you're being very reasonable with your descriptions there, making a number of good points, I think you too may be subconsciously discriminating too against either American comedians and/or black comedians for making the assumption that they "all" have a shouty style (it's not clear from your sentence structure whether you were referring to American comedians or black comedians all having the shouty style).

There are plenty of calm non-shouty American comedians.
There are plenty of calm non-shouty black comedians.
There are plenty of shouty British comedians. (Billy Connolly for a start?)

Now, if you don't like shouty comedians that's one thing, but it's not a strictly and all-inclusively American style, (nor a strictly and all-inclusively black style, again depending on which you meant).

I'm not going to try to convince you that you should like shouty comedians (even though personally I find it strange that the loudness of someone's voice should make the difference between whether you would enjoy a comedian or not), but I don't think you should tar all black comedians or all American comedians with the Eddie Murphy brush either.

You mention Bobby Thompson there. I put on The Little Waster before I started typing this message just to give myself some context. I'm now 15m in and it's barely made me crack a smile more than a couple of times. Each to their own, though. :) Life would be boring if everyone liked the same things.

Im not beinf subconscionsly racist at all. There's plenty of black comic actors I enjoy, and theres a few Asian stand up's ive not minded.

There may well be black comics out there i'd find funny but ive not seen any & all the really famous ones i just dont get their humour.

OK, well now you're making me think this is a challenge to find you a black / American stand-up comedian you might like. :)

To be fair there are very few comedians that make me laugh out loud regularly - even some of my favourite comedians just make me smile through their set with maybe the occasional "HA!" - so this could be tricky. :D
