Can doing something terrible stick on a persons conscience for life?

I get what you are saying but the driver did not intend to kill someone that day the lads/gang were piss farting about as lads do. And I’m sure they were told this if authorities were involved. Would it have happened if his mam had kept him off, if he had walked a different way, if the. driver had listened to his wife and took the day off. It’s all variables that are linked to a terrible accident.
I think to feel shame you go through a conscious thought process knowing what you are doing at the time is wrong but do it anyway.
It wasn't an accident though ,a lad died because he was being chased .If it was 3 adults chasing a man to his death there's consequences .Can you write a murder off using your what if scenario ? Most so called accidents have someone responsible

Everyone has something in their past that makes them wince. People should never ask for absolution. If people are truly sorry they accept the reality of what they've done and shoulder the burden of guilt as a painful responsibility.

One thing i wince at now was a lad getting me by the scruff of the neck as he thought i grassed him up for throwing mud at my nanas windows. I was soft as shite back then and the idea of a fight made me feel ill.
I feel ashamed of that incident as it was him and his mates that were doing it and i should have kicked his head in there and then for tormenting my nana and grandad.
Heard he got his head kicked in durham one night and needed some surgery on his eye socket. Whilst i never celebrated this i felt a little karma

Things were very different back then. Bullying at school happened (certainly at my school) but the majority of it was not dealt with appropriately. I’m not saying it wasn’t but if we’re honest, certainly back in the 1970s bullying wasn’t high on most schools priorities and I’d doubt if any of them would have had a formal policy about dealing with it.
I remember one Indian lad at my school. He was tall, had long hair and was obviously gay. He was bullied mercilessly and over a long period and it probably psychologically scarred him for life. As far as I was aware the school did nothing. These days, that type of bullying wouldn’t be allowed to get that far.
I was bullied at school as well by one big lad in particular. It was one of the reasons I hated school. I hope he reflected on his actions as he got older and realised what he put me through.

I think it still goes on today, in fact some would say it’s worse now than ever. I’m not sure but social media etc has made bullying easier. Now when kids go home from school they can still be bullied via social media and the internet. There’s been plenty of teens that have killed themselves over it. Tragic.

There will always be arseholes who prey on the weak or those that are a bit different.

Exactly your last sentence. I wouldn’t celebrate the lad who bullied me getting a bit of a shoeing but after what he put me through and really making my school year hell I certainly wouldn’t be that bothered.

It is tragic. I accept that kids won’t always see the consequences of their actions be that at the time of doing it or the long term consequences either but I often wonder what goes on in kids heads that makes them do it. Surely most are brought up with some standards of decency?

Girl I was at school with made up a story that her and a male teacher were having an affair.
He was arrested at school, sacked and his wife left him.
It didnt get to court because she admitted that she had made the whole thing up.
That poor fella lost everything.
I often wonder now that she will be in her 50s how she feels about what she did
Was he not reinstated when she admitted that she lied?

No mate but that’s exactly the difference. They were school kids. School kids chase other school kids. Look at that up Ryhope last year. School kids messing about and a kid got killed.

This happened years ago, a school lad was chased by a bunch of school lads on bunny hill, the lad getting chased ended up getting ran over and died. Every time I pass bunny hill I think about that lad and if the lads who caused it still feel guilty to this day and are ashamed for the rest of their lives.
Bullies are *****, however more often than not when they mature they come to regret their actions when younger.
I’d well imagine the added tragedy of actually causing the death of someone would weigh very heavily on their thoughts.

...unless they’re wrong’uns of course!

So you get a free pass being a "school kid" ...not every school kid chases other kids into the middle of the road.I know it happens but you're saying its no big deal ."why should they be ashamed"?

I don't think they should be walking around saying these things happen and what if this and that

What happened there. Can't remember hearing about that?
Outside Asda mate. A young lad messing with his pals went under a bus. Heartbreaking.

Well I don’t know how they feel. Neither do you. All I’m saying is it sounded like an accident in the op, even the wonders if they feel ashamed, aye it could have been avoided but in so many ways.

Horrible. My great grandmother got knocked over in a hit and run in that same spot years ago.

Yes unless you are a psychopath. I think 1 in 2000 people are psychopaths.

You’ve got this the wrong way round. I was there that night, it was 1984 I think, and the lad who was doing the chasing was killed. He got hit by a bus when he was chasing a lad across the road. The lad who died’s initials were AB, I won’t post the full name on here- but it’s probably available on google. He lived about 6 doors up from me on rotherfield road. Awful all the same. The council installed the crossings that are there shortly after this incident

I doubt it. They probably justified it as being an accident and forgot about it.

Was it early 80s? And was he hit by a bus? I lived in town end farm then and remember it. Also the lad who got ran over in castle view school yard by a kid in a stolen car!
