Pearson/Phillips sounds like a compelling idea, but I hope it doesn't happen. Pearson isn't very likeable.

Quite surprised at the negative reaction to him mind, I think he'd be a good shout. They want a manager who has got out of this league, he has (and with a fairly big club so not totally dissimilar to us this season), he's then also proved he can get a side out of the championship. He seems to get commitment from his players, he seems fairly flexible in terms of formation etc as opposed to being stubborn with one favoured approach. In league one he'd be a very good shout imo, and if he brought Phillips that would be a positive as well as far as I'm concerned

We could persuade fergie out of retirement and folk would twist that he’s been out of the game too long

Yep get where ya coming from but hes barmy, remember when he grabbed opposition player on the touchline.Anybody

He has his detractors like all the candidates but what you cannot argue against him is the fact he was the one who put Leicester City in the Premiership in the first place. Ranieri just picked up the ball and kicked it further. Claudio won the title but it was Nige' who put them in the Premiership which enabled them to win the title in the first place. He was one of the main guys who turned the club into what it is today. And it was he who gambled the clubs money on a talent from Fletwood Town.

He must have something about him that means he can turn clubs around and let's face it, it wouldn't take much, virtually a fraction of the effort he put in to making Leicester City a good club, to turn us around and improve us into something vaguely resembling what they started as when he was appointed which is more than good enough for me.

And what of his nature? It may not be Guy Fawkes Night yet but my fooking God do those players need a firework up their cowardly arses. They need some spark from somewhere to get them playing like a player who can beat teams and beat them well. And we need a manager who is no pushover, who can give as good as he gets, who makes it clear he and Sunderland AFC are not to be messed with. Not by the media and press and not by rival fans. Not by anyone.

I just look at it and think there's no way we will get a universally wanted, big name to the club currently, especially with investment up in the air. Currently we're a bit of a risk tbh, a huge club where you'll be expected to go up or you'll likely be out, but equally one that isn't performing brilliantly and with likely not much at all available to strengthen the side in January. Many would take it in the hopes of getting it right, but it's not the most attractive prospect in football I wouldn't have thought.

I think if pretty much any other side in this league got Pearson they'd be delighted. He didn't do well in his last job but I wouldn't massively hold that against him, must be hard to get people to totally buy into what you're trying to do if you don't speak the language, and is a country and league that he obviously had no experience of.

Given his achievements in England I think he would be something of a coup, certainly more than Ainsworth, he's done more than Stendel. Not sure why the negativity, I get is a bit of an abrasive character, but I think he'd get results and that's ultimately what matters

And this was tweeted at 8.40pm yesterday, strange no one has picked up on it before now.

You've certainly sold it to me. Big Nige in!

Actually a good post, however he cant polish turds

If he turns up great, and i don't care if he's a raving lunatic, who should be carted off to the nut house, if he can do for Sunderland what he did for Leicester, he can be as mental as he like's even zip wire down the directors box to the touch line, in a clown suit and singing, readytogo as loud as he can

Five years ago I'd have been pleased to see him come but not now. He had a disastrous time at Derby County after leaving Leicester and lost more than he won in Belgium. Anyway, reading his twitter account that Cockshaw seems a prat.

It's a yes from me providing Phillips is there too. A bit like bad cop, good cop, Pearson would get them sorted and with Phillips on board we'd get the lift we so badly need. Experience and lift is what we need and I can't see any other person/due mentioned that would give us that apart from Keane.
