I doubt it makes much at all after hosting and running costs. fairly sure the mods aren't paid... well they weren't when i was asked. if roger makes a few quid out of it fair do's

I agree, wholeheartedly - but it's not his free time then if it's earning him revenue. For what it's worth I think he is spot on in the OP.

Whilst attacking the mods is totally wrong, I'd imagine the site gains revenue from ads, so it's hardly free time - someone is likely paid for doing so.

Attacking ANYONE is wrong, moderator or not - and the moderators do get uncalled for flack. They do a whole lot more than most people realise.

The moderators aren't paid (they have had a small gift from me at Christmas each year that the site has made a profit, but all of their time is freely volunteered).

Obviously I get any profit after the running costs, but I can assure you it is a lot less than minimum wage and I could earn whole lot more if I used my time somewhere else. The site wasn't set up to make money, it was always a labour of love and something I enjoyed. However I will be honest, if it had still been costing me money to run rather than the other way around it would be long gone.

The first post on this thread is serious and people could do well to read my first sentence.

Great site, the problem you have Roger is some people wouldnt give a shit if this site folded

Not criticising anyone, but I think the mods could weed out some of the people bringing the place down, which would help

How about:
  • broaden the number of moderators (if moderation is an issue)
  • inform all members of the forum rules more often (this should be straight forward)
  • apply the rules more consistently (we know that some posters get away with all sorts)
  • provide information and support to the members who cross the line ocassionally (wer'e all human and passions can run high)
  • ban members who break the rules and don't respond to incremental warnings (1st, 2nd 3rd strike, that kind of thing)
  • reward positive forum behaviours
  • provide feedback to posters who select 'report' by outlining why decisions are/were made
  • include forum members in randomised feedback surveys (how are things going); exit surveys (why did you leave), voluntary feedback groups (working on specific issues)
It might be the case that these things are already done, but that they're not clear to all. Confirmation bias is hard-wired. We hear what we want to hear. Forums will always be a place of varied opinion. Ours just happens to be a larger forum than most, therefore we get a wider range of opinions and we know where that leads. It's a big forum and there's much to proud about. Big forum = big leadership

Others get away with nothing. I was once banned by Keith just because you lot had lost. He apologised afterwards but it did make me go 'whats the point' in reporting if I get banned for no reason and others get away with murder.

Edit - at the same time I've been warned/banned before by @Pancho and he took the time to reply to me and tell me why etc and it was appreciated. There is some great modding on here to be found to.

But you didn't get banned for nothing. We don't ban mags from the forum for being mags, but if you had the insensitivity to come and gloat after a defeat what can you expect? Now go away before I ban you for crying.

This is the exact sort of behaviour that got you in this problem to start with. I wasn't gloating - Keith just said 'cant be bothered to deal with this now' in his post and banned me. I'm not crying - but quite frankly you have kind of proven my point?

Ban me for having an opinion - merely trying to help by offering an opinion as many others have. Crack on and ban me for no reason and reinforce the original posters point.

So can we send a pm to the mod asking why recieved a ban?

Also @Roger sorry for the questions, if one of your mod team amends someoned status to lost magpie for a joke between him and another mod, do I report that or ignore it?

I read the forum for a long time before joining because in amongst the bollocks there is lots of interesting news, viewpoints and nostalgia around the club most of us love more than makes sense. I think I joined after an overload when only members could view and gradually started posting. I have tried to avoid the takeover carry on as it would drive me nuts and most of what is posted is idle speculation. The ITK status seems to me to be tenuous at best. I have cringed at the world domination imagined on the back of an uninvolved Michael Dell.
Mostly folk are funny or well meaning, sometimes it gets more vehement, I may be guilty of this on politics (I steer clear of most politics threads for my sanity) and on sectarianism in relation to the Old Firm but am more guilty of triviality.
I greatly appreciate this forum as an exile and thank you Roger and those who keep it running for enabling such a vibrant forum to thrive and I well understand your dilemna as you have a burden of responsibilty that we, as posters, are never mindful of in the same way. I hope it continues but wouldn't blame you if you decided it is too onerous. Thank you

Or when Smith was appointed. You can just see the comments - "Underwhelmed", "small time", "tin pot", "no big club experience", etc.

Stokoe!
They would have handed in their season tickets when they employed a mag.
In fairness that works both ways mind.

There was a definite pack mentality towards any dissenting voices to the ‘fictional facts’ being claimed in regards to the takeover.

Can’t have it all ways I’m afraid.
Point proven @Roger

Haway lads. We are known all over the country for being friendly, approachable and good humoured. Don't let the blight of online anonymity leading to trolling get the better of you. Apart from which, we are Sunderland supporters who have endured it all from being the bank of England club to laughing stock and back again many times. We need to stick together.

Show some respect and choose your words more carefully. It's beyond me why anybody would get angry on a message board.

I'm not on here often enough to know what posts Roger is on about mind, nor the offending posters.

Today is the first time I've logged in in 18 month, the main reason being that spouted shite became more of a prevalence than good craic. To come back and see this pinned at the top of PF tells me it never did go back the other way, cos once over the craic on here was tremendous and far outweighed anything else. Real shame.

I'm embarrassed for them. You never see or hear anything properly cringey coming from people and think Christ, imagine spouting that shite? I'd say that was a fairly normal reaction.
To be fair, the supposedly ITK posters can be hilarous. They can be a fun start to the day. Others, however are plain unpleasant if the act as they post and I don't sign in to experience that.

You may have noticed that when Newcastle get beat some of you make rather a large meal of it. Banter can't be just one way.

This is without a doubt the best forum I've come across. It would be a shame if it died. I was gutted when I couldn't get on for two months and couldn't see the politics forum.

My crime was to join in where the OP of the thread was a mod and he was getting pelters for his view on something from left, right and centre. My punishment was a two month ban and my post, a funny commercial I'd seen on US TV, was deleted. I assume he also handed out bans to others who bruised his fragile ego that day.

I got warned for a post "Ha'Way the Brexit". Said I was a "wum". Pretty pathetic from the mods given the shit they let go.

I seldom post any more but browse on occasion.

There is no point in questioning the integrity of the moderation staff, people have tried this before and nearly always been shown up when an admin looks at the circumstances of the warning and shows that the warning wasn't so innocent after all. I've had my fair share of warnings and bans and have adapted my behaviour (as much as I can) so I can continue to use this site without causing anyone any trouble. Like another member said earlier if after what you have written to post on here makes you think twice before pressing the post button just delete it and post it a different way or don't post it at all.
