What makes you say that mate?
6 decades of disappointment?

The positive side: no one has denied the deal, or has said it has fallen through. That's good.
The negative side: so many people seemed to hint that it was about to happen a few weeks ago, the fact that it did not indicates there was a snag. That it still hasn't happened might indicate that snag remains. The longer that is true, it seems to me, the lower the likelihood of a resolution.

Maybe I'm just doing the Sunderland fan trick of 'preparing for the worst' (but secretly hoping for good news). ;)

Look - if we're in the same position next weekend (After SD's comments), then I really will be concerned.

How long has this been going on
How long has this been going on
Well, your friends
With their fancy persuasion
Don't admit that it's part of a scheme
But I can't help but have my suspicion
'Cause I ain't quite as dumb as I seem
And you said you was never intending
To break up our scene in this way
But there ain't any use in pretending
It could happen to us any day
How long has this been going on
How long has this been going on
Oh, your friends
With their fancy persuasion
Don't admit that it's part of a scheme
But I can't help but have my suspicion
'Cause I ain't quite as dumb as I seem
Ooh, you said you was never intending
To break…
ACE that song 👍

Peoples hints not coming true doesn't indicate there was a snag!

It indicates their hints were guesses.

A bloke walks into a bar and sees a sign hanging over the bar which read: Cheese Sandwich: £1.50, Chicken Sandwich: £2.50, Hand Job: £10.00

Checking his wallet for the necessary payment, he walks up to the bar and beckons one of the three exceptionally attractive blondes serving drinks to an eager-looking group of men.
“Yes?” she enquires with a knowing smile, "can I help you?"
I was wondering, whispers the man, "are you the one who gives the hand-jobs?"
"Yes", she purrs, "indeed I am."
The man replies "Well go and wash your f#cking hands, I want a cheese sandwich!"
I almost choked on my coffee :)

I am not discussing the wish to change the badge. I am taking issue with you branding it (ie the last 22 years) as a failure. Personally (glass half full) the SOL era has moved us from being a 2nd tier club that might get promotion to a top flight club that might get relegated. You obviously see that time differently (glass half empty).

Again, I'm not talking from the point of view of a Sunderland fan. I'm talking about how the badge (and therefore the brand) is perceived among more casual, foreign viewers. They don't give a fuck whether the era since the current badge came in is marginally more successful than the previous one. They will see that badge and link it to a shit side that was generally scrabbling about near the foot of the table and then went down twice. It's associated with failure. My initial post didn't even mention the previous era so I don't know why you're banging on about it. I didn't compare the eras, simply that people will associate this badge with failure, which they will

I love the panther-style cats (and have a pair as a tat; I have the image above, then reversed it, made it 5% smaller and overlapped slightly, so Sam and Del;)). If they were reworked as simplified versions of the 'lions rampant' on our current badge, then scrapped the top and bottom it would be a much cleaner and more distinctive design. Maybe put Sunderland AFC and 1879 at the bottom and six gold stars and two red ones to represent our league and cup wins at the top, we would have a badge that represents the city and the club. Easy to add more stars too!
Like everything we do, we should be looking for gradual, sustainable improvement.

I just like this - less is more.
