Why were you late?
My first day in a job I was late. It was because of the crane crashing into the Thames and I was trying to cross the bridge on a bus at the time.
Did they ring in advance to say they'd be late? If so, piss poor form - stern words about first impressions.
If not, I'd find it difficult not to make them turn round again and sod off home.
As someone who's consistently late for everything, I'd say unless there's a specific need in your type of work to be in on time then let it go, as long as they do their hours who cares when they do them

I was late for my interview for my current job. Still got the job.
My mother drove and was an hour late in picking me up (getting lost in Spain - she was on holiday and semi-visiting in another town). I was fuming. Why were you late?
