  • A set of stars aligned that season in regard to all the "big" clubs being in some form of transition or upheaval that is unlikely to happen again anytime soon.

You mackems really are a blindly optimistic bunch and always go a bit silly whenever anyone from the outside world takes an interest in you but just to dampen your excitement and dreams of imminent glory for a moment, ask yourselves why these billionaire investors have chosen to spend coppers on a cheap purchase rather than a ready made top club ?
The investment needed to get from a squad of players and coaches who wouldn't make Championship reserves to being a successful premier league club is several hundred million so why not just spend it now ?
There's a reason why these people have never invested in sports franchises before and why they've bought a corner shop rather than a top brand.
You're a strangely excitable bunch and moving on from the Don should be viewed as some kind of progress, even if it's little different to the numerous other lower league clubs who have seen investment from various "gazillionaires", but realistically you should probably be concerning yourselves more with what your going to do with your increasingly unpopular manager and a squad who can't put a run together in the third division rather than dreaming about winning the Premier League.

Chomp ya fucker

Same reason people restore run down classic cars. People are weird. However buying a brand new Ferrari and spending a fortune on it because you don’t like the colour or the seats of want a bigger exhaust really is just stupid.

I think it is when it’s all on one player like

We only bought bakdwin n o nien as others didn’t we?
Those two plus Wyke and Power. The three of those were anywhere between £1m and £2m. Its obviously not a lot by our standards but just the outlay on those alone would have been close to the highest transfer expenditure in the division's history. Something like 20 of the clubs in this league didnt spend a penny on transfer fees.

Still spent that badly though, comes with a lack of football knowledge with Hill n coton

Is it? Peterborough spent close to that this year didn’t they?

Oh aye it was completely wasted, absolutely.

I think Pboro spent a similar amount this season aye. Before that I think it was Blackburn at around 1.5m

Whilst I am as optimistic and excited as most on this board about the potential improvements to the club after the takeover, perhaps we have all been getting carried away about the levels of future investment that we think there might be.

According to the Echo: "But it’s important to establish that MSD Capital are not the majority shareholders in the Miami Marlins. Indeed, they hold roughly a 7% take in the franchise after a capital injection of around $85.8 million in 2017, which formed part of a billion-dollar takeover deal alongside a consortium of other businessmen and sports stars - including Michael Jordan and Derek Jeter, who is now the franchise’s CEO.
Interestingly, the Miami Herald claim there is a clause in the investment deal which will allow MSD to withdraw their investment after five years if they so desire - with a guaranteed return."

I know that the 3 amigos will take the vast majority - if not all - of control over the club. Saying that, they have been able to do that for not far off 50% of what they invested as a 7% share in Miami Marlins. It still remains possible - until we hear more about their plans - that they might invest just enough to get us back into the championship, or Premier League, and then sell the club on. They could easily double or triple their money in a few seasons. And why not? They are not football fans. They are businessman.

I am still willing to dream that the deal is a long term investment, and that we are going to see big developments at Sunderland in the next 5-10 years. But one step at a time. It's a bit like a lass dating a millionaire. She won't be entitled to much unless she gets married.
