And there is the answer. A genuine pathway to the 1st. A strategy where we focus on developing our youth players. Jack Ross wont buy into this strategy
I don’t know exactly where to sit the blame on this one. Earlier this summer he talked about a smaller squad of around 20. Maybe this was contingent on better senior players being available. He certainly bears a chunk of responsibility but the way he talked at the start of the summer indicated his preference was for something other than what he currently has.

Our u18s have just been beaten 10-0 at Everton after having a poor season last year so that won't be a particularly appealing option for young uns of this lad's age as there's obviously a problem there. Hopefully, come any takeover, we have a full restructure and planning of the academy.

Doesn't appear a Jack Ross problem to me. From what I have read, he seems interested and involved with the youths.

The remit he has been given for better or worse is to get promoted, this is sometimes at odds with club development imo.

the academy was fine when mcnamee was in charge...

It's a lot easier to give young lads a chance if you're in a comfortable position in the league or are winning games convincingly enough to have some youngsters on the bench....I don't think we are in a position to do that.

In the case of this 15 yr old lad, you'd hope his parents would see that jumping out of a relatively small group at Sunderland to a much bigger group could prove to be a bad move with less of a chance of being noticed....the ratio of young lads making it through from academy to first team at the bigger club's is rare, most usually end up elsewhere without actually kicking a ball.

It's a difficult choice but if he's happy here at 15, then I don't see the rush to move.

You can do both. Norwich and Southampton are recent examples. Wheres Bali Mumba gone? Jack Ross has kicked him into tough. Embleton is a bit part, at best, player for Ross.

He has about 8 cm's to manage in a formation that uses 2.

The remit is to gain promotion at all costs, failure to do so will result in the sack. If you were him, your responsibility would be to your remit given, not to make us better overall or increase assets or to the duty of a 17-year-olds career.

I think any manager under those conditions would play senior pros before players needing experience. In my opinion, the fault lies with the strategy/remit, not the manager.

true. the club has been in a state of constant trauma for the last 4 years. when we played wolves at home last game when we were already relegated (i.e no pressure on the game) we had Mumba, Hume, Robson, Molyneux, Embleton and Asoro on the pitch by the end of the game. which we somehow won 3-0 :)

then next season starts, and the pressure is almost unbearable on the club to win the league first time of asking. unfortunately thats not the environment to bring young developing lads into usually, unless they instantly improve the first 11.

There is never a good time but I felt the relegation was the ideal time to fundamentally change how the club is run from the ground up or at least to change strategy/ethos.

Fans were so happy that we had new owners, they would have given a years grace I think, more if they were communicated to clearly.

As it was, we went out and hammered the league's record transfer in January and heaped pressure on ourselves by using the tried and maligned manner of operating.

I'm of the opinion that the strategy is more focused on individuals than the club itself. If we focused on something more than just a promotion that may not be as aligned with a quick sale for instance.

Pathetic reply stating a fact?

I know that kids hyped on this forum normally amount to nothing, eg dan pybus and dan wright.

“Best kid you’ve ever seen” family member then I guess...
No he’s not but I do no him

Poor excuse. Both can be achieved.

If we can offer game time, he might prefer to stay here rather than be way down the pecking order and playing in the reserves.

Honesty I think half the battle is that if a kid doesn't make the grade at a club then on release someone else is more likely to take a punt on a Man City/Arsenal/Liverpool youngetser than a Sunderand one so he may get an in at a higher level. Possibly unreleated to this thread, just posted my musings.
