Ashes 5 test - The Oval

We will be on all day with this as we soo far apart on it.

There is loads of variables where we could go on forever, form opposition bowlers etc etc.

For instance the Aussie bowlers which we both agree have been excellent have been the main and defining reason for Roots wickets this series, he has had some brilliant deliveries.

You have always in my opinion but more importance on somebody’s position in the order rather than other factors which always confused me?

If Root was batting at 4 in this series against obviously the same bowlers on the same wickets do you really believe he would have performed that much better just one place lower!

I do actually. I think he'd have done better at four definitely.

Like I say all about opinions, I don’t think it made a scrap of difference as the way the wickets were falling at the top of the order would probably have been in a couple of overs later anyway, fancy the same bowlers on the same wicket, not sure how you can be definite about it like as impossible to know.

In fact through most of his recent career when Root has batted at 4 with our top order he has been in as early as a number 3 anyway.

It’s one position

But yet he scores loads more runs, nearly 10 an innings more, strange that.

Earlier in his career when he was in form and battling well through that golden period of his at that time he happened to be four.

Imo he would have still scored the same runs at 3 at that time and it was he his form not his actual position imo as he was coming in as early as number 3s normally do

We all know batsman go through form and confidence and imo that is more of a factor than batting just one place diffrent.
