Ashes 5 test - The Oval

Not sure what you mean no reason to stop?

Do you just keep on trying and trying even if you as a selector don’t think the people in the frame are good enough to make the step up?

Stop trying players.

There are players who can do ok jobs as Burns n Denly have shown

I’d prefer that to shoe horning our lower middle order players to the top 4
Oh ok. Just you said 2 younger openers so I got confused

Just meant we have a couple to try. I’ve not seen enough of any of them, got to trust selectors

I think Denly could do fine at 3, the main priority for me is get your best player batting in the best position. Build round thst basically.

I still get confused by people’s theories rather than actual personnel.

Yeah it’s ok to say let’s try two young openers

That’s all well and good if we have them?

Theories are fine and dandy actual talent and players are more important surely?

Are there?

See I don’t I would rather senior players with more experience and talent took responsibility rather than leaving it to young batsman on their debut.

I really don’t think soo, they bowlers have been fabulous and that should be taken into account.

Some would have Denly out by now, but bit patience and he has played better.

Don’t think we should read too much into some batsman not getting runs against such a good attack with the number 1 bowler in the world in their ranks and bowling very very well

Maybe Pope for Bairstow, but would make no more changes than that.

I want Root further down, so would be bringing in Sibley too. Or Crawley, I don't mind which really. Pope comes in at six or five, Buttler at seven. Denly at three - then Sibley as opener. That's solid for me.

Don't see where we disagree - would you be keeping Curran in and having five seamers?

Yeah Sibley and Crawley are highlighy rated by everyone who has spoken about them, including people like Trott and Trescothick who are employed as scouts by the ECB

They might not work but there is always talent out there

Never ever should people go on like there is nobody to pick, County cricket is class and there is a lot of talent out there

from young 20/21 year olds like Curran and Pope, to seasoned campaigners like Denly and Malan, who have bothed proved good enough to just about each score 100s in Ashes series.

I would simply go

Burns
Denly
Root
Pope
Stokes
Roy or Bairstow
Buttler w/k
Ali
Archer
Broad
Anderson.

I like that rather than throwing people opening on their debut.

All about opinions though.

Can't see how you can possibly have Root and 3 and Pope at 4 personally.

You aren't "throwing people" in to open, they will be openers!

Pope and Root out of position in that lineup.

Pope needs to come in and be allowed to develop at 5 or 6, and Root at 3 has been an absolute disaster.

It’s not a question on nobody to pick but a question of whether you think that new person will be better than the person already in the side, that’s the basis of any team sport at any level.

And what selectors get paid for!

Yeah can take you point with Pope said that all along young players should develop down the order but get that.

But don’t with Root been over this a thousand times.
