Takeover Rumours

It might sound minor to some people but I'd absolutely love it if the area from the bridge and metro up to the ground (particularly those back street areas) were improved and became part of the match day 'experience', a bit like you get at some streets leading up to grounds.
I agree totally...Anyone who hasn't voted get voting for the new bridge then . ice.org.uk you can vote for the bridge getting a design award and win some goodies....its on the SMB. It all help promote the city

Since I posted my ITK bits about Fuhrman, etc, I've received messages of various kinds from various people I'd not previously known. I've not posted much of the info unless it's been substantiated by someone unconnected with them, flight details, etc. . Through this I've 'met' some interesting people with much more knowledge than myself.

One of the aspects of this takeover that was mentioned to me, around 2 weeks ago, was the Hilton at the SOL. I was given a little info, about it, personally but not enough to confirm it or post. I then received a pm from a well known respected poster but a stranger to me. More interesting but still not enough to post. However, I've had a WhatsApp conversation with a friend, this morning, which has prompted me to post.

It's been mooted there are negotiations for the new owners to buy the Hilton while the club is at its lowest ebb. Its obvious the hotel's value would soar if we were in the PL and doing well. Short would then be able to ask top dollar whereas he may 'take a deal' pre-takeover announcement. But he won't just roll over especially as he took a big hit when he 'sold the club'. If there's an impasse that could slow down the takeover/announcement.

I'm not sure if it's Short, or another 'company' that owns the Hilton but the Dell boys could recoup a great deal of investment, in the club, by taking ownership of the hotel now and seeing the value increase.

That tends to be how serious business people become so rich. Of course they can spend millions, on the football side, without it hurting them but if they can earn that money back, and then some, they'll see that as success. As long as we hang onto their coat tails we'll see the area, around the ground, brought into line. TBH the areas from the Wheatsheaf and the metro to the ground are disgraceful. Especially the back alley from the Deafy/Victory and the hot dog alley over the railway bridge.

If there are plans to improve it all it would benefit everyone.

What if whoever owns the hotel now is thinking the same as the Dell boys?

Surely they aren't going to cash out on what could be a sound investment in the future if the Dell boys are looking to have more than just football at the stadium?

I really hope the hotel isn't a deal breaker....If I was the owner of it, I'd be holding on to it or wanting a hell of a lot more than I paid.

Riv, la! I woke up fairly chilled this morning man!

It would, it would also push the idle authorities into action elsewhere to clean up other parts of the city.

Sure as shit these lads will be remarkably dynamic, imagine seeing us COMPETE (not play) against the big hitters?

Fkng class.

When I first became embroiled in this shit, what seems months ago, I was told the intention is to create a long term legacy ... 'All local groups will be invited* to participate including the council, business, sports groups, transport, etc'.

I hope invited* means 'an offer the council can't refuse ;)

Haggling over a hotel doesn't really match with staffing issues we've been led to believe was the delay.

Like a poster has alluded to Short won't sell if he knows massive investment is on its way and I can't see the owners overpaying for it. Looking bleak

I reckon they could be considering American football, NBA.... all those sports now on Sky and BT

There are thousands of aspects to this deal.

The hotel is important but wouldn't be a deal breaker imo.

Absolutely spot on. I don't think it's delusional or out of touch to say our fan-base is top-tier, especially given what we have put up with over the years.

If you are a Sunderland supporter then more often than not you live and breathe Sunderland, we don't really attract the casual crowd. In terms of "outsiders", Quinn talked about it getting "under your skin" and I was always cynical about what that really means......why us and not, Forest/Villa/Leeds/etc/etc?. I honestly think it's the people and how much WE care.

For example: I'm getting up at 6am to go to a bar with four Americans with no prior connection to the UK and the bloke who owns the place and started following us under Keane/Drumavilla (he's from Dublin). We are all getting up early to watch a league one game, against Accrington Stanley, in a bar that shows Portland Timbers, Ireland (football and Rugby), Red Sox and Sunderland pretty much exclusively.

As depressing as it is most of the time, we're part of something special.

Where's this place out of interest?

The plot thickens mate???
I doubt it!no need to rush with appointing a DOF.red herring im afraid in my book ............. my total guess it will be about money(it always is ) if its a full takeover the new owner usually wants more than 90% of the shares but above 75% is the minimum! i guess again that it is santi wanting to stay involved or the money he wants for his shares or the seats on the board! If don is to use more of his time running the club yet reducing his stake there has to be a balance between the new group owning enough of the club to give them control and the financial benefit to the don! Santi owns 20 % of the club so thats quite a decent barganing chip ....... charlies 6% is not worth bothering about though. It might be about deals with the council about developmentof the surrounding land ..who knows? But something stopped it going through on the week of the 23rd August and i for one am desperatly hoping its just arguing over the colour of the livery of the new monorail trains!

Interesting that Wolves owners have already put 20% of the club up for sale as they seek fresh investment.

They value the club at £350 million and only paid £60 million for it in the championship.

Thats why the Yanks are looking at you lads - £££ to be made if you can get back into the land of milk and honey.

That's it like, I don't think most people expect them to hoy loads of money around like city. It will mean we have a decent chance of getting back to prem in the next 5 years, the current owner is skint so we'd have no chance with him still in charge.

That's my point mate. Would you sell the only hotel next to the ground to potential owners or keep it yourself?
Personally I'd keep it but its belongs to Ellis Short does it not but then everything has a price. Plenty of other land over looking the river for hotels, restaurants etc..
