Paine is an Ashes winning captain

He will be thrown under the bus the next tough series and Smith will get the job back and will be seen as some big redemption.

Australia's quality seem bowling and Smith was the difference
Fair play to him. He was brought in as he is an experienced player and decent bloke at a time where repairing their image was paramount.

So much to learn from top to bottom - going into an Ashes series straight after a World Cup with no real time for rest or red ball cricket practice.

Meanwhile, we allow the Aussies to come over and play county cricket and adapt to the conditions.

Root and branch changes needed I think.

Not often a nation loses a series on home soil. Theuve played our conditions better than us... and we wont win in australia as we are even worse there and none of out lineup can play a short ball

Such a shame. Big effort today from the tail, but ultimately the batsmen have cost us the Ashes.

Already in a taxi, couldn't face the replacement bus.

They played 2/3 warm up games and then another game between the last test and this one.

Meanwhile next summer our team will warm up by playing 16.4 over cricket

ECB aren't interested in giving players red ball practice. An issue for many years.
