Takeover Rumours

People wondering why we aren't splashing potential new owners cash yet...ffs man! :)

I think regardless of whether we sign anyone now...Ross is competent enough and this league is poor enough that we will still be within (at worst) touching distance of the play-off places and able to mount a serious and hopefully glorious promotion charge in the second half of the season. When new rich owners are confirmed and know to be ready to spend and take us to the next level, in the months running up to January you would imagine players and agents will be falling over themselves to come here.

Failing to see the bigger picture is what has kept this club in the shit for years. Not that you're responsible Phil but i think we have had people at the club who share your short sighted dire mentality.
so you are saying our natural level is league one. that's fine but I am not ready to accept that.

“Waiting in the wings”

Therefore, not signed off yet.
Fair enough I accept that and I am maybe a bit naive in these matters , but surely if you were about to buy any business and you reach a day ,after which you were unable to influence it no matter how much money you had, you would make some attempt to improve it before that deadline was passed.
We are f***ing around getting absolute deadwood into our club , when the current squad is clearly not up to the task.
I accept the point that you can’t spend the new owners cash , but if the deal is all but done , the present owners who are not even leaving the club, could be a bit more ambitious.

Think I could probably be regarded as a “happy clapper” by many on here. I think most who are regarded as that just wanted the manager to be given time and not to knee jerk to the disasters we have had the last few years. At the end of last season I thought Ross should be given 10 games to see if he has changed anything. Everyone has a point where enough is enough and mine was seeing the inept setup/performance/playing players in wrong position at Peterborough. Added to that not having recruited what we need and is plain for all to see has tipped the balance a couple of games early. Whilst I believe in giving him a chance I think we have and it’s obvious he’s learned nowt since last year.

I’m now hoping the new owners come in and bring in their own man.

I'm hoping that new man isn't a manager but a Director of Football responsible for hiring staff.

SD seems a very good businessman and pleasant chap who does a lot of good for the fans but if we just throw money at the setup it will be as good as burning money and potentially put us on dodgy ground again.

I’ve missed huge chunks of this thread, had ht been rumoured that Ross will go after the takeover and a new man come in?
Rumours are not keen on him, but believe we will go up at the end of the season. I expect him to stay, we get promoted and they bring their own manager in for the Championship.

You have experts like @Grumpy Old Man spelling out the financial details and people just making up their own facts ...
... this board never fails to entertain

If we really are about to be taken over by Multi Billionaires who are about to plough huge amounts into our club, how are we struggling to attract any decent players to the club . I accept the financial fair play situation but surely we have some leeway when it comes to transfer fees and wages.
I’m not expecting Neymar through the door but we don’t seem to be in a position to purchase anyone which seems a bit strange when according to some on here we are now virtually owned by some of the richest men in football .

Good, he's a prick.

Premier league parachute payments that have been used to bring down the wage bill by getting rid of players like Cattermole and Oviedo who alone were on more money than most league one teams.

Spending money we haven’t got in the hopes that that’s going to make new investors think “wow, this Donald guy really knows how to run a business financially well” is f***ing ludicrous.
Excellent post, I hope this helps some of the more narrow minded posters understand the importance of transparency, honesty and reputation along with the basics of sound business practice. I doubt it though.

As is stands that is precisely where we are sadly. Hope is we have bottomed and we can start the climb with a clean slate and shrewd investment. No reason if the Dell syndicate comes off that we can’t be optimistic about the future.

As has already been said, would you Chuck money at something you don't own.
Bit like buying a tumbledown house you wouldn't start doing it up until you took ownership completely.

all those wanting 'quality' in before the window closes...you do realise that if/when this takeover is complete and announced that agents around the country and beyond will be touting players to us at vastly over inflated fees, they would rather hold back in the hope of more money than 'losing out' in a hurried deal now...remember, they are all leeches.

But if they’re coming in and planning on changing the manager and recruitment setup then they won’t want to sign players yet.

Then there’s the fact that signing a boatload of players on deadline day rarely makes for a good team.
