?? Root was batting 3 in his last knock and he been all series.Ridiculous test squad given Roy and buttler are struggling badly
also moving root to 3 after his stellar knock in the last innings is stupid
Silly question, but why havent the ecb arranged a 3 day game against a minor county or second 11 for our test team during this break?
because against minor opposition they'd continue to get away with the bad habits which they've been found out against Aussie standard opposition. If MERLIN is still around, Aussie bowling can be replicated in practiseSilly question, but why havent the ecb arranged a 3 day game against a minor county or second 11 for our test team during this break?
England squad for fourth Ashes Test against Australia: Joe Root (capt), Jofra Archer, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler (wk), Sam Curran, Joe Denly, Jack Leach, Craig Overton, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes.
I find it absolutely staggering that two players are averaging less the 10 in their six innings so far and are not being looked at.
Amazing.
Roy
Buttler
Bairstow just about deserves another shot
Absolutely piss poor selection again keeping Roy and Buttler in the side. Never known a more spineless bunch of selectors, at least 1 should have made way.
Still 1 test tonDon't think it's that amazing considering the pool of possible replacements ( very limited imo) and the pedigree they both have in international cricket, all be it another format.
We know both are very talented cricketers and as such should in my opinion get a longer run than the average player, however of course it's difficult to argue that they both are very much under pressure and need to start to perform.
In case of Roy, totally been put in the wrong position and should be given a go lower down.
I remember the last time a Buttler selection was laughed at, he went on to perform very well.
I am really not convinced we have quality replacements with the right mental strength to be thrown in, in such a crucial game.
Totally agree but continued selection after a run of low scores leads to complacency( the undropable mindset). Bairstow, Butler and Roy to a lesser extent have shown a marked reluctance to adapt their game to red ball cricket. Only way to correct this stubbornness is to drop them or remove their central contracts.Don't think it's that amazing considering the pool of possible replacements ( very limited imo) and the pedigree they both have in international cricket, all be it another format.

Ironically Woakes (and probably Moeen) are probably the best bowler/batsmen we've got to come in at 6 down. But neither firing on all cylinders.

Still laughing at the cricinfo brand of cricket supporter that looks at first class averages and uses them as evidence as the next player that will be selected for England. Haway man lads you are better than that.
That's fine if they were scratching round at 20s or so, but they're both averaging 9. It's nowhere near good enough. We can have the inquest in 3 weeks time but for now we have to win at least one and not lose either of the two Tests. The Ashes is all that matters.
And I hate to say it, but Buttler's summer of 2018 is starting to look like the blip. Hopefully he'll step up.
