Takeover Rumours

A lot of those tickets were either given away by the club or sold at a cheap in packages, as most of us already know. SD has said he won't be doing any of this as it means the club runs at a loss. I'm sure he said something in his last podcast about the club earning more matchday income from tickets now than we were when we were in the Premier League, despite crowds being 10-15k bigger. I'm not being pessimistic, it's the reality.

It took Man City years of success to start selling out the Etihad, and even now you see empty seats.

I just don't see much point in expanding the SoL.
A lot? How many do you think a lot was? 10.000, 20, 000. The 3rd tier gates suggest it was in the hundreds. Newcastle pre Keegan started from quite a low base. If we have a winning team the crowds will come back. We were getting reserve crowds of 30.000 plus for reserve games when the SOL first opened.

First post in this thread..

The giddy hysteria on display here is premature. Surely as football fans we all know that more takeovers collapse than go through? Calm down people.

All it takes is the wrong 'advisor' to come along and say;

"You're doing what? BUYING Sunderland football club? Yee are mental. GET OOT NOO"

We haven't always given away a load of tickets, it's a myth and we certainly weren't giving away tickets in our mist recent season in the PL when yet again we had an average attendance of 40k.

With a good team we'd easily fill the stadium.

The free ticket might be true in the Short era but I don't think there were (m)any free tickets in the early days of the SOL, who on earth would spend millions to extend the stadium in order to give free tickets away.

There was a feel good factor with the team play attacking football and competing with the best, if that was ever repeated we would be selling out

I'm not sure how much, but you should be able to make an estimate based on my 2nd point about what SD said (but you seem to have chose to ignore that part and only concentrate on the first 4 letters of my entire post).

Look at Man City. They average(d) similar crowds to us, both in PL and L1 before their takeover and it took them years of success to start selling out the Etihad, and even now you see empty seats in a 55,000 capacity stadium.

Nothing has been announced unless I’ve missed the grand unveiling.

I’m sure there are plenty businesses in talks that don’t end up materialising. Just have a look at Bolton and Bury for proof of that.

So, are you saying;

1.that it is your belief that it won't happen?

2.you think that it will happen but that no one should be optimistic about it?
