3rd Ashes Test - Headingley

Yep. It's a test series where one test affects another. Our bowlers have had very little rest compared to theirs. Need to keep them out there.

Can it not be good bowling or does it have to be throwing it away? Be best to get the rules decided upon before the day starts to avoid confusion.

In the first innings it was a bit of both but largely the latter. In this innings we are at least making them work hard for their wickets. I expect we won’t chuck it away but we need luck as well as the application we showed yesterday if we are to get anywhere near.

Aye don't get me wrong, some of our wickets were awful, particularly Stokes. One of the worst shots I've seen given the situation. But as you sat, it's going to take luck as well as ability.

What I take issue with is how people react completely OTT. We take wickets, it's good bowling. We lose wickets, it's shite batting.

You can guarantee if Root is out to a dismissal like one of the wickets Archer took (where it rolled onto the stumps) it'll not be unlucky, it'll be shite batting, with him being told to fuck off, called a prick etc.

Totally agree with all of this.

Never thought (and still don't think) we'd chase this down, the main thing is that we don't give wickets away like Stokes in the first innings. If we lose wickets like Roys yesterday or Root in the first innings, then fair enough. If you've got a jaffa with your name on it, then not much you can do about it.

Denly had a few wafts yesterday, but got away with them. Need a bit more of that luck and we may have a shout.

How can you have hope if you think it's going to be done by dinner? That sounds like you've got nee hope.

Guaranteed if this was the Aussies in our position the usual posters would be saying that Australia would chase this down - I bet there aren’t many Aussie fans saying they are going to lose this, massive difference in mentality.

Even their players have said they fully expect to win this test.

Had a browse through some Australian news sites, I would say they are confident, but not arrogant about getting the 7 wickets they need. Acknowledging some good batting in the second innings, and stressing their bowlers are well capable of knocking England over.

Players just need to remember that this isn't a typical fourth innings - pitch won't be very worn, barely any play on day one and its only the start of day four now. It isn't like chasing down 350 last would typically be - this is probably the best time in the game to be batting. Just need to play proper cricket instead of stupid shots - just got a feeling that some of them won't be able to resist - buttler and bairstow particularly. If Stokes and Root can get us to within 100 before falling, then we've got a good chance - do think that a lot rests of their shoulders though
