Getting into cricket

What's the best way to go about having a game or training with a cricket team? Do teams advertise when players are needed ahead of a new season?

Fancy giving it a try next season, does anywhere have training on over the winter?

Mind I could be totally shite, not played at all since school

I'd look at your local league structure and see what league is at the bottom of the rung. Look and see if the teams have any social media pages etc and put some feelers out.

No doubt you’ll not be as good as you’d like to be but you’ll improve and loads of clubs will be pleased to have you.
Find a club that’s as close as possible so you can enjoy the social side and walk home.:)

A lot of clubs have social teams and most if not all, would welcome new players of all abilities.

I'd start off at as low a level as possible so if you don't do well, it doesn't really matter as the club will be glad just to have you turn out for them. Plenty near you (East Rainton 2nd, Murton 2nds, Belmont 2nds).

Belmont or Silksworth good shouts.

All I'd say is take the plunge mate - if you contacted them now I dare say they'd get you games this season.

I've not met anyone who's taken the plunge and played the first game (which lets face it can be nerve wracking) and regretted it.

Belmont is a great club

Good luck. I've found cricket clubs all over the region to be insular, clique-ridden and snobbish. A few years back I contacted 5 local clubs asking if needed players, or even net bowlers etc as I was keen to get back into the game. Not one of them replied. As a kid I used to practice at Percy Main CC in North Shields and even they were f***ing snobs, looking down their nose at my cheap bat and "old fashioned" pads - I was 16 years old FFS

Cheers lads, I'll have a look at silky or Belmont.
What's the usual time commitment for games each week?
Belmont have a Facebook page and I've still got a few contacts. They play over the road to Bannatynes/B&Q. 2nd team game at home tomorrow starting 1.30 if you want to have a look at things.
