Easy to moan and then want VAR at all professional levels once you are on the receiving end of a howler.

Last night an absolute bizarre off side goal given to Northampton in front of the linesman.
Everyone in the ground left bemused and my Cobblers mate in the away end level couldn’t believe it was given.

Ohh well we move on but the officials in the lower leagues as no doubt you are finding are not very good at getting the simple decisions right.
Let’s hope it evens out and we get some our way.

Decent win last night for you and proves it’s a tough league.

Our ref last night allowed a blatant back pass to go unpunished. Not as bad as your injustice, but the point is the same.

Just watched it, diabolical.

That was about as easy an offside decision it’s possible to get. Linesman not fit for purpose in this instance - that is a lot more than a human error - does he even know the rule?

As you can imagine everyone going mental.
Northampton came for the point and offered nothing all game and were gifted the 3 points from that one decision.
Granted we found it tough to break them down and are short on squad numbers.
However the football on show is positive and one game hopefully that becomes a minor disappointment.
Crowds appear on the up which is another positive.

I would love to know how these officials are monitored and assessed to be competent and what happens to them (if anything) when they let a howler go.

The inability to get simple things right seems to be a major issue with the refs in the lower leagues and it doesn’t half kill the flow of a lot of the games. Whilst he didn’t get any match defining decisions wrong, he gave a lot of soft free kicks to them whilst ignoring blatant fouls.

He kneed the ball back to the keeper didnt he? well that's how i saw it on the box.....
If you're talking about the one where he used his knee, that's not a back pass , I appealed at first but realised it was a knee so good decision by the ref.
beat me to it....

Correct decision mate. If its knocked back to the keeper with your head, chest or knee it's not a backpass.

This goal however, total incompetence giving that.

Our refs have been fine this season.

The linesman clearly got that one wrong at Swindon. Only thing I can think is he thought with the Northampton player stretching forward for the ball, he thought the attacker in the middle was level with the ball?

I agree. This isn't nearly as clearcut as all the armchair experts seem to think, when all they're looking at is the last defender. The player who lays it off is stretching his leg out in front, and it's very close to level actually, but the assistant is slightly behind the line anyway, so from his (her?) perspective the one who scored is going to look well onside.

You can't really tell without a proper side on view. The officials get nearly all these right, the odd one is probably excusable.

I paused the video as the attacker stretched and made contact with the ball. He looks about half a yard to a yard offside, but it's hard to know for certain from that angle.

It's one of those where if you're at the game plenty are screaming that he's five yards off, when it's not the case.
