we dont really have a boycott anymore do we...a player who could bat for days adn who had the patience and the belief that he didnt need to hit everything

presumably the press would slaughter him now for being dour or boring when sometimes you do need that bloke who can just keep going

Ironic that Stokes should have to assume that role, repeatedly.
Denly looking decent..
But, of course, he always does, for a while.

Aside from Trott and Cook the only other example I can think of who genuinely knew how to open in the past 5 years was Compton.

This Macho posturing nonsense of attacking everything does my head in. Takes far more skill and stones to occupy the crease for hours.

More like tantric cricket instead of a quick wank

Jesus H Christ!

First session of the second Test and already I fear the worst.

The Aussies seem better prepared, more disciplined and determined to prove a point.

England just look like rabbits in the headlights at the minute.
England are not a team in Test cricket. Just a collection of 8/9 good players with a couple of very good players. They're not far away in terms of players, just a couple of top order batsmen (just!) but they need a lot more time to get a strategy and gell and as an example it took 2 years at least for the 2005 side to come together and be ready to face the Aussies.

It's mish-mash, shoehorning players into positions rather than picking an 11 with balance.

But some of our good players are also misfiring lately. I mean Root, Buttler, Bairstow and (perhaps) Ali.

Rory is looking very good...
Goes to show how far having an actual test match mindset when batting can help. Rode his luck last couple games but he plays the percentages fairly well and seems to know his capabilities rather than trying to slay every ball for 4 like half our current lot.

Good recovery after the usual early losses. With the forecast tomorrow there's surely no chance of a result so today is about getting a bit of pride back and batting the day. I've got no problem with us being 200-4 at the close

Fortunately though don’t think the Aussie have a good side either though.

Still a lot of cricket to be played before this series is over.

Almost like your the bloke in your avatar.

It's funny that being in the top 3 in test match cricket requires this. Yet so many players just cant do it.
