the problem is safc fans always go on about it being a massive club and talk up the gates and the potenntial..then do t sell out..it looks bad..charlie was wrong to say what he said..but safc fans are sometimes wrong to highlight potential when they dont sell out..

“They” not “we”. Interesting!

The vocal support in the Checkatrade was poor esp after Pompey equalised fhs. A valid criticism yet some are too precious to admit it.
The play off final was worse, I couldn't believe how poor the vocal support was after the start we had.
And, he, said the pubs showing the games illegally were leeches, not those who watched it. What is incorrect about that?

He was asked a question and gave an honest answer whether you like it or not.

Some people are too precious and just see it as a headline to have some faux outrage over.
If they actually disected his comments they should actually admit he was correct in what he said.
We have way too many snowflakes on here.

He wasn’t right in much of what he said.
It’s not hard to argue on size of club that we should have gone up ahead of Charlton. Charlton haven’t spent as much of the last 20 30 years in the top flight as we have.
He may be correct on ticket numbers sold and noise but to ignore any mitigating factors in that is disingenuous imo.

You say tomato and i sat tomatoe.

Anything said can be read into a number of ways depending upon the persons disposition at the time.

Was it dissapointing that Charlton had more fans at the playoff final than us? some would say yes given our support nuimbers both home and away.
Should he have taken into consideration the expense of a wmbley trip considering we had one a few weeks earlier? probably
Were our fans quiter than Charltons? Yes
Was he right with his "Cabral" comments? In my opinion yes.
Was he right with his paraste comments regarding pubs? Again, in my opinion yes.

Just out of curiosity, leaving emotion aside, what was wrong with what he said in your opinion?

So basically you are agreeing that what he said was correct, look for these mitigating circumstances all day but he dealt in cold hard facts.

He said that Sunderland fans need to ‘be realistic about being int he top divisions’ I think that’s rubbish it’s perfectly realistic to expect to get promotion from this league. It’s only our second season in it ever.
He then said ‘Charlton have been a premier league club for much of the last 20-30 years’ they haven’t they have been 10 seasons in the last 30 years so I don’t think he was right there especially as he was using it incomparison to us.
‘They had 40,000 fans to our 34,000 fans at Wembley, it’s hard to argue on size of club that it should be Charlton who should have stayed down’ that’s just rubbish tbh Charlton aren’t a bigger club than Sunderland by any measure I can think of.

Those were the bits I disagreed with.

No I’m not I’m disagreeing with what he said. The only fact he has is the attendance in a one off game the rest is all subjective. I think using the attendance in a one off game with no context is also wrong and doesn’t in any way support the point he was seemingly trying to make.

There’s really not a cabal of fans.

The vocal support bounces off the performance on the pitch, that is a fact.

If the side had been having a go and creating chances it would have been bouncing in the final, instead JR and the players shit themselves and camped behind the ball to defend. That obviously creates nerves and there’s nothing to shout about.

This is the same as in the home games, the crowd react to the performances, it’s the same everywhere. Everyone talks about Anfield and their crowds etc but I was there when they beat us 2-1 when they were going for the title under Rodgers and I tell you what, it was silent until the 94th minute because they were shite and nervous.
Can’t believe the fans are coming in for stick for the vocal support, the level of support or anything like that.

People are that up the owners arse they’d (not you), they’d rather dig out their own rather than SD or CM

I don’t think Wembley was a much of a surprise to the club. What bemused them was the pitiful Pompey attendance 2 weeks earlier. I know some had genuine reasons for not attending (inc some good posters on here), but a lot just give up and walked away.

Quinny and the previous regime were also bemused by this element.

I think both crowds Wembley and Pompey were lower than I would have expected. To try and use those in an attempt to imply the fans have unrealistic expectations to get promoted from league one is wrong imo.

We complain if a manager is honest and says we are relegation fodder, we complain if one of the board sets high expectations.
I am happy with the latter, Iam grown up enough to know he can’t guarantee it... but at least it’s a stated ambition and objective by which to judge our season by.

It was silly thing to say.
