Honeyman to Hull?

and the eight goals, and the role model for other academy players

I’ve posted this before (in reply to yourself coincidentally) but this eight goals thing includes goals in the checkatrade (vs Carlisle I think?) and port vale in the fa cup.

If you look at the league:
He’s scored 6 goals 3 assists in 35 (4 as a sub)

Cattermole has 7 goals 1 assist in 29 (1 as a sub)
Mcgeady has 11 goals 5 assists in 35 (4 as a sub)
Maguire has 7 goals 5 assists in 33 (9 as a sub)
Morgan has 1 goal 4 assists in 17 (5 as a sub)
Gooch has 5 goals 8 assists in 39 (8 as a sub)
Leadbitter has 0 goals 5 assists in 15 (2 as a sub)
O’Nien has 5 goals 6 assists in 37 (13 as a sub)
Power has 4 goals 2 assists in 35 (6 as a sub)
Oviedo has 0 goals 4 assists in 23 (8 as a sub)

If you then consider how often he’s played as a 10, compared to say, Leadbitter or out wide like Morgan etc, I’d say he doesn’t come out on top against many - maybe power I guess? But again, power tends to play deeper...O’Nien has contributed at least as much from right back in fewer starts ffs.

Stats not great and actually watching him each weekly was enough. Not good enough.

Wheres the mighty midget mcgeoughs stats though .

Statistically that is not true. I don't think it's true actually watching the games I did see either tbh

Gooch contributed absolutely nothing in the last third of the season, which is what I was talking about. The stats do back that up. It's not just Gooch, but he's just one of the attackers who were completely stifled at the end of the season. Grigg and Wyke gave very little. Morgan was ineffective. I personally don't rate Honeyman as a good number 10, but stating that he was one of the main reasons we didn't go up when there were a lot of glaring issues in that team is slightly ridiculous.

From RR so needs checking ;)

Those reports are true with the club accepting a bid of £250,000 up front for the academy product, with a further £250,000 in potential add-ons.

Honeyman had a year left on his Sunderland contract and was one of the higher earners at the club after the departures of Lee Cattermole and Bryan Oviedo, with his departure trimming approximately £500,000 off the wage bill.
So that's £250k plus bonuses but more importantly £500k off the wage bill

Must have been on about £10k a week

Absolutely pathetic to say Honeyman was one of the main reasons we didn't go up.

You're absolutely right about the last third of the season. He was poorfrom about December. Thing is he was exceptional for the first thirdof the season.

An argument I see on here all the time, it makes no sense, it is essentially asking people to judge a player on a hypothetical rather than how they actually play.
Well, as for his play. As a midfield player, he couldn't tackle or challenge, he could not do the role of a defensive midfielder, the he was poor at crossing the ball and corner kicks not beating the first man, he was never any good for through balls, he was never a leader on the pitch, far from it . He was good at sprinting out onto the pitch before a game, kick off, second half looking like he was going to break out with fire in his belly but never did. As a leader and a captain of the team, he should have been willing to run at players and demolish mountains and scale heights , but never did nor lead from the front, he did however score some goals
