Jonny Bairstow

Bairstow looks shot. This sulking thing in the winter when he lost the gloves was bizarre - he doesn't trust his batting so feels he needs the gloves to keep him in the team
This test team is starting to suffer from too many all-rounders and not enough specialists

Maybe he needs a rest - just possibly this World Cup win is going to cost us our 18 year unbeaten record v Australia

While we're on teh subject. Just what is Moeen Ali these days? Definitely not a batsman. Is he even a bowler anymore?

Moeen has been an excellent cricketer for England, but he’s a walking wicket at the moment

Apart from averaging 44 in 2017? With 2 hundreds and 4 fifties in 7 tests? Apart from that?

Two seasons ago marra.

He was chronic against India and other than the knock against Sri Lanka has been poor since too.

He has been for a while. Everyone knows he can't play short pitched bowling
That said, the way he has been shunted up and down the order won't have helped the lad

Aye.

But it's academic until we find a better spinner.

I think we already have.......and in other news he appears to be a better batsman than Modern

He's not once posted better figures than Ali iirc. Clearly, to me, he looks a lot less threatening a spinner and being hit out the attack at eight an over by err Ireland won't have helped his Ashes case.

The batting was extraordinary today. He averaged 4 this season until today, but looked like an actual test match opener and, if we win, he should be man of the match. Funny old game.

Having said that, what Ireland were doing waiting until he had 70 on the board before bowling short stuff that clearly rattled him is anyone's guess.

I did. And you corrected me....

I didn't. I said Stokes was part of the discussion before he played himself back, that's all.

For me Bairstow's form is a major concern and I think test bowlers have worked out that if they bowl a certain way, he's a walking wicket. Similar to Ali really. I never said, at any point, he had been shit for three years - for me his form in 2017 is neither here nor there. He looks vulnerable.

Yeah, fair point

You would think those ODI and IPL bowlers would cotton on! He had a really poor series against India and there’s no doubt how the majority of dismissals came. That said he will play next week and throughout the Ashes series. It could be a defining series for him but I think he has the quality to have a good series. He isn’t the first quality player to have a poor run and won’t be the last. I think he’s a bit of a twat and people are being harsher in their assessment because of that

And that’s it in a nutshell, people becuase of his childish like behaviour at times, are simply forgetting there is no way there is 6 better test batsman in this country than Bairstow no way at all.

There is more of a argument that he is our second best batsman, than that he should be dropped.

As I’ve said, I think about it differently. In the 6-7 space I’d argue that Stokes and Buttler are both better.

And I don’t think he can bat in the top 5.

I get that he is a good 7

If you excluding Stokes and Buttler from the top 5, and putting them 6 and 7

There is no way in a million years there is another 5 batsman better than Bairstow, I just can’t see that, I get to Root then stop!

To me it’s not a question of where and when he bats, but whether they are better options and there simply isn’t imo,

I think we should only pick public school chaps and whether we win or not at least they will be playing in creams and talking to each other by their surnames. No more East Leeds Comprehensive or Bowburn Infants school people please.

Just seen his review. Seriously, what the fuck?

He didn't even consult his partner either. Clown.

There are six better batsmen at club level!
