I've been putting it off for a year now but the time to act is approaching. What i want to know is how long is the recovery period? Any advice would be appreciated.

What are the symptoms?
I’ve had my knee done but getting a dull pain like toothache in same side.

My boss had it at the end of May, he was out of hospital within 5 days and back to work after 4 weeks.

He said the worst but was at night as he couldnt get comfortable

Yeah first two weeks are unbearable especially when trying to sleep as you can't sleep on your side, I was up and down stairs at least 8 times a night trying to get comfortable. To be honest after the op it feels like you have continually been shagged up the arse for a month! it does get better though

Good to hear mate, I am waiting to hear a surgery date for my left hip, the surgeon told me last time I saw him that he used a ceramic hip rather than a metal one as they last longer apparently?

I didn't even ask what the replacement would be made of. I'd guess it will be metal. Looks class on the X-Ray.

I first started feeling mine at Disney land in 2015, pain in the centre of the back, which I thought was sciatica, and it just got worse from then, had MRI and Xray in January 2018, had right hip done August 18 and waiting for other this year

Inbox me and we can compare, if you have a pic like?

I had periods of almost unbearable groin pain. Over the years the pains spread into my thigh. On Doctor's advice I put it off for over a decade but ultimately the flare ups became so frequent I just had to have it done. I wish I'd had it done years ago.

I haven't, although you can ask for a copy. The surgeon showed me at my last assessment.

Actually mine began in the lower back area.

I was allowed to sleep on my side.

Wife (photos are available at a substantial cost), had her second hip done 3 weeks ago, she's now got rid of crutches and is well on the road to recovery, found the white stretch stockings to be the worst. I didn't feel a thing.

No thanks mate. :D

Which procedure did you have? I was almost pain free inside a week. The AMIS procedure avoids cutting through a large muscle group, thereby less pain during recovery, smaller scar and a faster recovery time. I'd advise anyone pondering the op to seek out a surgeon who uses this technique.

Which hospital was it done at? They told me sleeping on my side may affect the healing process

Westmorland General.

I had the one where he takes a big fuck off knife, big fuck off hammer and rips the f***ing bone out, I think :lol:

Oh, the bruising was horrendous, a huge completely black patch. Looked scary as fuck but didn't hurt much. Seriously, anyone considering the op should seek out a surgeon who uses this technique. You are allowed to choose who slices you up. :D

The first night is horrendous to be fair, I was awake over 48 hours after op

I was on crutches for four weeks as the surgeon insisted, single crutch for less than a week. Thanks to the AMIS procedure I'm up and about as normal now, in under two months. No more pain! If anyone else is thinking about having the operation I'd advise you find a surgeon who uses this technique. God bless Mr Stewart and the NHS!
Great news. Plenty long walks up those hills for you yet then?

Had both mine done 14 years ago with Ceramic bowl, Mr Buchanan sadly passed away. In yesterday for a check To rule out any hip problems as I’m having facet joint injections soon as back pain is getting worse even after a Laminectomy, anyway both hip joints very sound and movement is good, Mr Nanu now uses the same method as Mr Buchanan did, yes it was hell for me lying on my back and getting little sleep but once on your side it all eases, keep the rehabilitation up though .
