I agree. So what!? Why is that a bad thing? If he's encouraging people to attend games..its good.

I'm a SC holder and don't need him to question my support. He's part of the ownership of the club and it's his job to run it as efficiently and successfully as he can. My job is to support my team, my club, my Sunderland. He cannot sit there and call me out for having doubts. I've been attending since the early 70s and will be attending as long as I have the ability to do so. He can fuck right off as far as I'm concerned.

He's not questioning those who have doubts though.

That’s the verb everyone is using - “questioning”. Suddenly, everyone who has been negative were only innocently questioning the ownership. The truth is if you’ve been on here or Twitter for any amount of time, you’ll know that some people go much further than questioning. There are some here who question if Ross is the right man or if the Academy is going in the right direction - fair enough. But there were also people on here who spent all day arguing the finer details of a complex financial deal with an experienced accountant because it didn’t fit their agenda. I’m sure everyone knows which group they are a part of.

That’s the point . One of the key issues around the structure of the deal wasn’t complex at all . It was around the use of PP to pay SBC against the original narrative of the owners saying in their own words that they paid Ellis Short 40m . That doesn’t need an experienced accountant to understand. That’s why some people will interrogate or question what is being said

We really do have some precious fans mind. The vast majority must know that his comments aren't aimed at them. He's literally listed a whole load of examples of things he thinks it's perfectly fair to be unhappy/ worried/ complain about, everything from kids leaving the academy (which they can't really prevent) through to whether we think their way of working would have a chance in the championship and being pissed off at only coming fifth. If any of that kind of thing is worrying you or pissing you off, he's explicitly stated that his comments aren't referring to you.

The only example he gave of something he considers unhelpful is fans getting in touch with a paper asking them to try and dig dirt on the owners. I would imagine you can also throw into the mix people who invent conspiracy theories then peddle them on places like this. He says so called fans because people like this aren't supporting at all whilst doing this, they might go to matches, they might not, but if they want what's best for the club they have to realise that shit like that be harmful. By all means question things, they even brought GOM in to discuss finances etc, so they're being as open and honest as owners of a business can be (but even then they have people effectively suggesting that GOM is in their pockets and the likes).

If we don't do good business in this transfer window and we start poorly it sounds like he fully expects and understands criticism. I imagine he'd be fine with people criticising the decision to keep Ross should that happen. Be as miserable and unhappy with our situation as you want (with good reason tbh), all he's saying is not to go around spreading disinformation, making libelous statements (like we've seen on here recently) and trying to get the gutter press to target them so that they have to waste time dealing with that instead of getting on with the job. I think it's fair enough
Exactly this.

The problem is they made a LOT of comments/promises early on which have since either proven to be “economical in truth”

Debt Free
Paying £40m for the club and then the contradicting comments on the use of the parachute payments

Or slightly outlandish

“Piss taking stops here”
“We’re going to bully other academies”
We’re going to buy younger players who are used to playing regularly.
No more injury prone players.
We’re going to scout and recruit well. The right players for the club. We can’t waste money in the market.

They seemed to use those early interviews to say what they believed the fans wanted to hear. They weren’t going to make any of the mistakes of previous owners. Hoorah!

Unfortunately that either wasn’t delivered or is simply something you can’t “promise”.

Yes, they spent a lot of money, but with the same mistakes of the past... it was a rushed window last summer so can forgive for that, but I can’t see them learning from it so far. Hopefully in a few weeks my doubts will have been allayed.

And yes, we’re in League one and it’s impossible/very difficult to stop U16s leaving our academy. However why be so bullish in those early interviews. They also promised big investment into the academy. Has that happened? And have they really got the best person they believe they can hire to run it?

Do they really feel we have the right man to run the scouting? It needed (needs) and absolute overhaul.

We still don’t seem to have a concise plan of action of how to punch above our weight. We’re still awaiting this overhaul of “footballing” systems. Truthfully it doesn’t really feel anything has changed on how we do the “football” side of things in terms of recruitment, coaching, scouting...

Before too many shoot me down, I am fully behind them, Ross and the players. and while I don’t agree with most of these “conspiracies” I can see how they’ve laid ground for them to flourish, and for many fans to feel disgruntled.

Maybe Charlie needs to learn some humility... ;)

I haven't the first clue about the financial dealings. I'm an average supporter who puts their faith in so called betters to run the club. I'm yet to be convinced by these gentlemen. I am a natural cynic.

Fair enough. He isn’t getting after people who legitimately question some things the club are doing though. It’s the other group, who are massively negative and seem to have an anti-ownership agenda who he’s firing back at. If you get on here, it’s as clear as day as to which people belong to which group.

As I’ve said, there’s nothing wrong with questioning. But the debate in that thread went way beyond that. It was absolutely obvious as to who was questioning and who actively had a negative agenda.

Thats basically what I am seeing. I am sure he doesn’t like the “questioning” and for a PR man he sometimes has a strange choice of words, but ultimately I think its people posting blatant untruths across social media, including here that is the bigger issue. I don’t think it is people questioning how well we are doing, or how much money is being spent that he is really taking issue with.

I don’t personally know anyone who is happy with our current situation, but I can see why he thinks there is an undercurrent of “fans” who seem to be out to destroy the club. Being unhappy doesn’t give people the right to post made-up rumours and abuse everywhere.

The season starts soon, lets at least get behind the lads for a bit.

I wonder if this negativity from some towards the owners affects our chances of bringing some players in. I'm sure that most of them access social media.

I know that when i'm looking at alternative employment i google the company just as if i'm looking to hire someone i google them.

Agreed. No one can deny he is a smarmy, patronising twat. Donald seems a likeable bloke on a personal level. I could have a jar with him but this fella is pretty much as far away from my type of person as you could get.

Funnily enough, in person he's actually very likeable. I don't trust him completely; I don't think he'd tell me an outright lie, but he probably wouldn't tell me the whole truth either. However, as a bloke to have a drink with, he's amiable company.
