SMB Tennis thread

Just saw that 9 of the last 16 are over 30 and only 2 are under 27, and they play Federer and Djokovic. The future is bright.

Pretty underwhelming last 8 so far. Strycova and Riske are both very good on grass, so you maybe can't begrudge them a run on the biggest grass stage, but they are 33 and 29 respectively and have done relatively little throughout their careers on the biggest stages. Zhang is 30 and had only made the second week (4th round and beyond) of a slam only once before this tournament (in almost 30 attempts) and had lost 7 out of 8 matches just a couple of weeks ago.

Not exactly a must see line up so far, generally speaking, if you're a particular fan of any of those 3 players then it's obviously different.

I am pleased Svitolina has made the QF, although a bit of fortune on her way as mentioned above. if she can get past Pliskova (or Muchova) then it would be a big surprise that her first slam SF was on grass.

Hoping Sousa can extend his match with Nadal a bit so that Halep-Gauff and Konta-Kerber dont directly clash.

Too much going on at once. Pliskova is in a right battle here, deep in the decider.

CoCo falls to Halep.

When Kvitova held her serve in the ninth game from 15-40 down you just knew what was going to happen in the tenth.:(

I think I'd like the winner of this match to win the tournament. Not a great lot Konta could do as it was 2 great first serves from Petra, but yeah, but there was a sense of inevitability about it when Jo was serving to stay in the set.

10-10 now in the all Czech match. Could well be getting that tie break. There's not an obvious candidate who looks likely to break first as both have been in decent positions to break.

0-30, so another chance for Pliskova to strike first.

Svitolina is the main beneficiary the longer that one goes on.

Big game here for Jo!

It would be nice to see a tie break for the first time. I have a bet on Pliskova to win the tournament, but I wouldn't mind if Muchova won this.

Konta holds to stay a break up...

Gonna go on forever...

12-12 tie break this year marra.
