Yeah but where there was a set of plugs or an air filter to change there are additional battery / sensor / programming checks to do.

I see what you’re saying but a dealer / manufacturer isn’t going to compromise the money the make from routine servicing so will find new ways of justifying the cost.

Just had the wife's Leaf serviced today and I can confirm it's a complete joke when you look at the checklist - they basically check brakes and fluids and battery health along with the tyres. No way would it take as long as it would for a conventional car
They also have service intervals of 12 months - my Jaguar F Pace only requires a service every 24 months

There's also an argument to say that the resources used in mining the elements required in the batteries for a world of electric vehicles would counter the positive effect they would have.

As for the grid. People are obsessed about charging points. No way will each household have or even need its own charger. It's ridiculous to even think it really.

Its laughable when certain UK politicians, or on news today some high paid boss within the UK's infrastructure team (going on about increasing charging points by tens or hundreds of thousands prior to 2050) when the rest of Europe has been getting ready/rolling out infrastructure on a mass scale for this for well over ten years now (even the last diesel/hybrid bus was taken off the roads in NL back in 2010) and all bus services are now just electric (green electric even!)... vast majority of vehicles sold today are electric... in Germany, Sweden and NL we already have certain motorway sections that have overhead electric cables for HGV's... and some companies are already rolling out solar vehicles (the battery is already becoming the past! )… all bus stops and lighting across NL are solar powered (so even the remote stops) so that now they can add free of charge an electronic screen showing when next bus is due in middle of countryside... and then this week, the solar vehicles that are being made so that they can re-charge other solar vehicles … see link (in Dutch though)… because while they now have solar vehicles that can travel up to 1200km on one charge, the average person only needs to travel up to 56km per day, so use energy to re-charge other road users … the future was electric/battery... the future is now solar

JLR announced they were going to manufacture electric in the UK, they’ve had electric and hybrid for a while now.

Had a BMW i3 for 15 months now, love it wouldn’t go back to a petrol/diesel now, only car in the family so its getting lots of use, long journeys etc, just have to plan your trips more careful other which soon becomes 2nd nature

Rapid charge usually takes 30-60 minutes tbh, but you’re right, in certain areas I wouldn’t leave a car out the front charging.

Made my mind up, going for the Tesla model 3 performance. 0-60 in 3.3 seconds, autonomous driving, range of 310miles. I should be able to get pretty much anywhere I need to with that range, with a bit of planning. The landlord at work has agreed to installing some charging points there.

Car looks class to me, not everyone’s cup of tea but it’s so different from anything I’ve seen before.

Company car mate, perks of 21 years of hard graft! I wouldn’t spend £50k on a car either.

It’s above my budget so I have to personally contribute to the monthly cost but it still works out cheaper for me than what I pay now, as the benefit in kind from April 2020 is next to nowt.
