Thunder warning

Just looked at that map and looks like Edinburgh is ground zero.
Fart in a teacup really. It seems to have passed for now. Bit of it out over the river, but there does seem to be another bank moving up of south Lanarkshire that might go over head. Haway the thunder.

How does that website work. Increyable
When lightning strikes it releases a huge pulse of electromagnetic energy in all directions. There are sensor stations all round the country. When three stations register a single strike and EM pulse they will all do so at slightly different times. Using the time differences they can then triangulate the location of the lightning.

Update from Slight to Enhanced Risk of strong/severe thunderstorms for North East England and parts of Southern Scotland for the next 4 - 6 hours.

Confidence remains low but higher confidence of storm upscaling along the cold front in the next several hours. Thunderstorms across S Scotland will also persist for the next several hours. Migration of heavy showers currently across Lancs and Merseyside will slowly track NNE or ENE with an expectation for these to upscale and become more intense and severe as the cold front engages with the high theta-e plume.

Whilst convection should be largely elevated, there will be the continued threat of elevated base supercell development and or line segments posing the risk of severe and dangerous weather conditions. Main threats continue to be frequent lightning, large hail, gusty winds and the risk of flash flooding.

Eyes to the skies.
