Yep, Federer-Nadal in the same half was the main story, so with Nadal avoiding Djokovic, there wasn't too much difference with the seeding situation, although Nadal obviously couldn't be drawn against the 4th seed, which he could have it is remained the same. Nadal's potential 2nd, 3rd and 4th round matches are not easy, so another early exit wouldn't be a major shock. Djok vs Kohlschreiber again, third time this year, 1-1 currently. First round collectively looks decent enough for the 6 Brits, so hopefully at least 3 of 4 come through.

Section one and two are loaded there. Not too bad for Barty for the opening couple of rounds, but she had Muguruza, Bencic and Vekic, all 3 good on grass, in her way before the QFs, where she could face Kerber or Serena. Goerges is also there, so that means 3 of the 4 semi finalists last year are in section 2 and Sharapova almost looks an afterthought in that section. The top half does look much tougher than the bottom half.

Quite a nice collective opening round draw for the 4 Brits, so hopefully a few come through. Gauff vs Venus looks like one of the picks of the first round, 15 vs 39.

Looking froward to Monday.

Nadal v Kyrgios round 2 :D

Not a good draw for Djokovic, Nadal or Fed and the three favourites all in one quarter on the womens side. About as interesting a draw as you could probably hope for to be honest.

Would love to see that, but I'm not convinced it happens. Thompson can play on grass and you never know with Kyrgios, he could tank, retire or even pull out before that match. Fingers crossed though, definitely a potential stand out.

It'd be typical wouldn't it?

Although I will be disappointed if Kyrgios doesn't win. His effort levels when he's in London do seem to generally be a fair bit higher than anywhere else in the world unless he's injured. Not entirely sure that Thompson spending all this week playing in a tournament where the temperature's around about a billion degrees will be beneficial next week either.

Yeah, Paire wasn't too happy with those conditions, probably best to get out of there early, and Jordan is currently a set up in his semi final. Kyrgios does really seem to respect Wimbledon, and was obviously practising on grass with Murray even before the French Open. That match has to happen, would be so disappointed if it didn't for whatever reason.

I might stick on bet on Pliskova, she's had a couple of disappointing exits in the past couple of years, but her section does look pretty nice - a couple of dangerous floaters in her way like Ostapenko, but with the recently injured, out of form, not great on grass, Svitolina, as the highest seed in her way, her path to the semi final does look pretty kind. The bottom half is definitely the place to be.

Gutted Nadal is in feds half as can't see fed beating both Nadal and Djokovic back to back at his age.
If Nadal plays and beats who's he's predicted on paper it would be one of the toughest slam wins in the open era!
Djokovic going out 1st rd and Nadal 2nd rd would throw the tournament wide open and be good for the sport (I'd still want Federer to win but in this scenario it wouldn't be bad to see someone new win a slam)
As an earlier posted said those 2nd week draws for all 3 of them are tough, what a shame delpo and Murray arent in it!!
Watch out for berrettini, fritz, berdych , Isner as all potential quarter final opponents for federer.

Kyrgios will be motivated as much as he can be at the prospect of beating nadal!!

Pliskova leading Bertens 6-1 5-1 isn't going to help increase her odds.

Kerber vs Pliskova will be a good Eastbourne final tomorrow.

Djokovic will win it again, catwalk to the final. Nadal struggles with big servers at Wimbledon so well probably get blasted off court by Cillic in the 4th round. Cant see Federer making the final although not sure who he will lose against. Can see it being another Djokovic v no mark final like last year.

Just stuck a tenner on Pliskova at 8/1 - don't think I'm going to get better than that. She's as short as 11/2 at some places, and one bookies now has her as the favourite.

I still can't get over how strong that women's first quarter is. Something like:

Barty vs Muguruza
Kerber vs Vekic
Serena vs Goerges
Kerber vs Bencic

Would have been a perfectly fine quarter final line up, a very strong one going by recent years, yet only 2 of them can actually make the quarter final. That's not even mentioning Riske who is a very fine grass court player and has won 2 grass titles in the past 3 weeks. Sharapova's expectations wouldn't have been too high having only played 2 matches since February, but she'll have pretty much no chance of even a half decent run, being in this section. There's 7 grand slam champions amongst those 32 players, that's 2 more than in the entire men's draw. Brutal.

Ah, got Kerber in twice, but swap her with Riske or Sharapova, and while not quite the same, is still a fine line up.

Some decent round 1 matches:

Thiem vs Querrey, Tiafoe vs Fognini, Kyrgios vs Thompson, Pouille vs Gasquet, but Venus vs young Gauff has to be the pick of the lot.

That's just become 4th round now and Coric has withdrawn, so the Italian moves into his spot. Struff moves into Berrettini's original spot, and Schnur in as a LL.

Good news for Fed that. Coric was the most dangerous player in his section. Be surprised if he drops a set before the quarter final. If it's Nishikori who reaches that stage rather than Isner or Berdych then that will be a pretty simple run to the semis.

Pretty dominant win for Pliskova there in not much more than an hour. She's been carving through the field all week and is the joint 6/1 Wimbledon favourite (with Barty) at a lot of bookies. Mind, she did win here 2 years ago and crashed out in the 2nd round of Wimbledon that year, but she's got a very nice draw this year.

It did feel overshadowed a bit by the World Cup last year, so hopefully back to normal this year. There is the women's version, but that's a bit different, plus there's only 3 more matches, 2 at 8pm and another on the Sunday when there's no tennis anyway.

I'm going for Federer and Barty.

A lot of very close games on paper cant wait

A lot of very close games on paper cant wait

I personally think the other halves will be more exciting. Certainly from a British perspective anyway as 8 of the 10 play on Tuesday, and a lot of the bigger women's names do as well. But first few days of a slam are always great, as there's something for everyone.

Venus vs Gauff is IMO the standout tie of the entire first round (on both sides) and that should start after 5pm, so more should be able to see it, although it does directly clash with Edmund so that will no doubt take a fair few viewers away from it. Great how you can watch every match this year as well, as I'm sure there was a couple of courts lat year that weren't streamed.

I'm out until around 2.30/3ish tomorrow, thankfully the matches I'm most interested in do seem to be on 3rd or 4th so I'll catch those. I'll probably record the main BBC2 coverage from 10.30 and whizz through some of the stuff I missed once live play has finished around 9ish.
