Did Christiano Ronaldo need to win a world cup?

Ronaldo for the pure fact he’s tested himself in four different leagues. I used to say Messi but there’s no doubt about it Ronaldo is the better player. His trophy count is unbelievable!

I tend to agree with this. I think it's pretty difficult to compare players in different positions, let alone players of different eras. Nutrition, tactics, equipment and training are all constantly improving and will all affect how much a player can achieve in their personal game.

Whilst that's a valid point, which I do agree with, it's funny how in football people still try and say somebody from 50 years ago is better than somebody now.
In Athletics for example, the greatest 100m sprinter of 60 years ago never gets compared to Bolt. But Usain Bolt has better nutrition, better tracks, better footwear etc.
It's just accepted that Bolt is better. Yes he has all the benefits of modern times, but that is why he's better. All of these things have helped to make him the best and most advanced ever.

Same as in football, all the modern advantages, the knowledge about diet, rest, recovery, fitness, all the advances in training methods etc. We are at the most advanced point football has ever been.
Somebody like the Ajax team of the 70s would struggle in league one these days. They wouldn't cope physically with the speed of turnovers, the lack of time on the ball, their stamina wouldn't be as good, their physique wouldn't be a match for league one players.

So you can only really compare players to their own era, and how much better they are than everybody else in their time.
Messi and Ronaldo doing 40+ goals a season for over a decade is insane.
There is not another footballer in any era who has dominated so much, and over such a period of time as these two.

The fact they have posted these stats and sustained them at such a level for so long is unrivalled, and that for me is what makes these two the best two of all time.

Impossible to answer as there is no right answer its all down to personnel opinion. Very different types of player, but both extremely effective. Personally I prefer to watch Messi, he is the football purists god, but have utter respect for Ronaldo. He has backed himself in four different countries and led each of those teams as the gladiatorial leader (the very quality that so many don't like about him) to succeed. Has Messi taken the easy option, certainly not, but by failing to deliver consistently with his country, where he's deemed as the leader on the pitch so he should shoulder some responsibility for their perceived failure, and staying with only one club then he has undoubtedly left the door open to criticism.

Messi is better technically. Ronaldo is a better goal scorer. Difficult to compare, probably depends on what style of football you like to watch.

Pace and power driving forward all the time that how football should be played in my opinion, probably why I prefer Ronaldo.

Iniesta and xavi arent as good modric in that case if thats the way it works

Ryan giggs isnt isnt as good as gareth bale.

Scholes isnt as good yaya toure

Its a bullshit argument
Far from it, if you're making a direct comparsion between the two individuals this thread concerns.

He’a a superb player but he’s not the best player in the world currently so can’t be the best of all time.

I’m not 100% sure he’s be in the top 3 in my lifetime. Certainly behind Messi and Maradona and arguably behind Zidane. At his peak I think Brazilian Ronaldo was also better although that was a brief period.

Behind Zidane?

In terms of all around footballer Ronaldo shades it for his success at international level - even though he went off injured in the 2016 final and they only really beat the Welsh in the semi

However Messi is unplayable and can score from nothing. If Messi was to win a WC he’d be the greatest ever - considering the team the RGs have it’s a travesty how much they’ve underachieved in recent years

By that logic, Pedro is better than George Best.

There was a meme on social media the other day, something along the lines of “The All time beat players at 34” and it was Maradonna - retired in disgrace after drugs test
Pele - at New York Cosmos
Best - at San Jose Earthquakes
Ronaldo - scoring a hat trick in the semi final of a UEFA tournament.
Ronaldo didn’t spend his career getting kicked to fuck though. Have you seen some of the challenges that went in on best, pele and maradonna? You can’t compare those eras for longevity at the highest level.
