Roker Rapport Podcast: With Stewart Donald (Tues 28th May)

Fairly happy with the whole interview. They seem genuinely pissed off on the football side and set the scene and expectations for next season. I liked his mention of Quinnys comment that 1-0 was seen as a defeat because they gave the opposition a chance. However I am not convinced that Ross is the man to do that - but at least he knows that both the owners and fans expect it.

What was said?

They asked a direct question that was a fan's question. 'Are you interested in Tom Eaves as he's a free transfer'. Basically said it would be naive to say if they were. Given Stewart's transparency I would have expected him to say he's not on our list.

It was clear Charlie was rattled by this. Fair play to the interviewers saying 'I've got to ask the question'. Really enjoyed the way they deliverd the questions. Connor was too nice an interviewer. These lads were really direct and didn't back down.

Aye I normally don't like that lad because he spends every podcast being totally over the top arse licking (as even tells the guest he's doing so). In fact I've stopped listening to the player ones etc that he does because of it.

He was much better yesterday though so I'm not sure what got into him. Maybe read the DM story about Conner and thought he was in a job interview?

Thought Methven was out of order with the way he belittled him. What's the point in doing a fan question generated podcast to belittle the lad asking the questions. No problem with saying he can't answer but absolutely no need to be a pompous bellend about it. Seems that's his personality tbh.

If someone keeps bringing up a subject you can't talk about then how should you react? There was a bit of a mood in both sides of the conversation. The RR guy has as much of a negative tone asking some of the questions as Charlie did in responding.

If they don't want to answer a question its fine to say you don't want to answer it. No need to belittle someone, and talk to them like shit, be use they are asking you a question on a fan question generated podcast. Especially one you have asked to go on. Donald didn't speak to him like shit for asking.

It's a fair question as well tbh. Maybe one they don't want to answer, but spunking 3 million on a striker who cant even get a place in the team despite being the managers top target, is a large part of why we have been so poor, and ultimately failed.

I don't think Ross has ever seen him play before they signed him.

I thought that, soon as I heard who was presenting the podcast, I thought fuck listening to this. As I don't normally like his opposition fans podcast. But hold me hands up, he was spot on with this one.

"rattled" :lol:

Nowhere near - the bloke is a PR expert and has never taken a stupid breath in his life. SD would have probably attempted to answer the question if CM hadn't (rightly) stepped in

He can stop him without belittling the interviewer and talking to him like a piece of shit. When I listened to it I couldn't believe how restraint the interviewer was. I'd have just fucked off.

Methven just doesn't seem to be able to handle any form of criticism at all.

I think they were right to ask the questions they did, and I think CM was right to shut him down as he did tbh. No harm done.

Interesting how we can have such opposite views. I thought Methven was fair but firm and the questions being asked about individual players' performance to the owner were rubbish and designed only to generate headlines. Nothing useful or constructive could come of answering them.

Like I say I have no problem with not answering but why speak to the interviewer like a piece of shit because he's asked a fan generated question on a fan generated podcast the Stuart and Charlie has asked to be part of?

The question hinted at criticism of a large part of why we have failed this second half of the season and he couldn't handle it so instead he belittled the lad asking him.

Never taken a stupid breath in his life? Do PR experts not take stupid breaths like? I can think of one particular high profile PR expert who thought he would never take a stupid breath and he didn’t half come a cropper.

Or is this just a deference thing? He went to Eton and speaks eloquently so he just has to be right?

'man in the pub question' was the term he used. Disrespectful to the lad asking who's only doing what Charlie and Donald wanted him to do when they asked to be on the podcast. If they are going to belittle the people asking the questions like that then why even ask to do a podcast that asks questions submitted by the fans. Just stick to doing corporate events.

Donald didn't speak to him like shite. Seems this is Charlie's default attitude when approached with something he doesn't like.

I think it was a fine thing to say, it was a very basic question which look to apportion blame rather than anything else.
