Honeyman Transfer Rumour

Afternoon Makems, Bristol City fan here, firstly I'd like to say condolences on missing out in the play offs I was hoping you'd come up over Charlton.

To cut to the chase there's rumours down our way that we are in for Honeymoon, but it appears the rumours have apparently came from your end. With such a busy forum I was surprised I haven't seen anything on here and I'm sure it's made up but I thought I'd ask anyway. I'd be surprised if we were in for him because, with respect, the small amount I've seen from him he's looked gash & I don't think he's good enough for a team competing in League One.

Best of luck neat season & I hope you get promoted, without trying to blow smoke up your asses, you're far too big for the league you're in. Oh and finally if you can do over the scummers (Portsmouth) and make sure they aren't promoted then I'd be extra grateful, thanks!
I think he’s absolutely great, and like most on here, I’ll be really sad to see him go. He’s our talisman, our captain and he’s contributed so much this season. But if you must take him from us, then I suppose we’ll all just have to accept that and wish him all the best. Oh well. He’ll be a such a great signing for you.

He's not nearly as bad as our fans suggest. The problem is that we've played him as a number 10 and he lacks the quality to make the required contribution from position and thats been a problem for us. He's got great energy, great attitude and makes good runs but Im afraid lacks skill/quality and that will never come for the lad. I can understand why manager's like him.

He's not bad IMO. He's very small, energetic, scores one or two goals and generally quite tidy but unspectacular in play. He had a ridiculous pass completion ratio before the season just ended, but it's not been so good this season. The problem is this season he's played as an attacking midfielder to support the striker, mainly there to close the opposition down and he's been a bit lost doing it and suffered poor form and his inclusion has been criticised as a result. That and that we have a pretty small team and a central midfield which lacks a physical presence/mobility. That's the problem with him - I favoured him wide, but he's not a winger really, just not sure where to play him.

You wont get much of a balanced opinion on him on here I'm afraid, but he's potentially a decent player.

He’s absolutely shit.

Touch is poor, passing is poor, crossing is poor, shooting is woeful, not a good tackler, not good in the air, not quick, not strong.

He does run a lot though. Although it’s worth saying that most of the running he does puts him out of position and he doesn’t do enough to get back into position.

He also likes to make runs enthusiastically while pointing, unfortunately these are usually cowardly runs into areas where he can’t actually receive the ball - some fans do fall for this though.

Wouldn’t stand out as a good player in league 2 imo. He’d have to drop down a few divisions where he would only stand out because he’s fitter than others around him.

I do hope some poor fuckers sign him, just to take him away from us, but I think i’d feel sorry for whoever ends up with him. Apart from if Newcastle signed him, obviously.

I don't rate him as good as Henderson when he was here, but loads on here ripped into Henderson saying he was shite. Colback was better etc, and now look where he is

Do you not think we’ve had our hopes raised enough times lately.

This surely must have been offered in his contract terms. He's clearly the worst captain in the whole of SAFC's history.

I get it in terms of his attitude as you can tell how much it means for him playing for us but he hasnt the mentality to be a captain and he is too weak physically. It sends sends the weojg message when your captain gets bullied by the opposition

Mind i think JR has affected Honeymans form massively by playing him over and over as a number 10 when it is clear to almost everyone else he cant manage the role

Sunderland are in the league below Bristol City and Honeyman belongs in the league below Sunderland, which means just below Rovers standard.

Nah you aren’t are ya? You’re not comparing Henderson to Honeyman are you?

Henderson was a talented player who often struggled to stamp any kind of authority on a game. It was clear he could control a ball, pass, cross and sometimes go past a player. In the top flight also.

Honeyman hasn’t got a great deal of passing ability, he isn’t much of a goalscoring threat, he lacks physical presence, he rarely goes past a man and hasn’t the ability to control a game. He is a willing and committed runner at times. I think most of his committed running tends to be away from the ball as he doesn’t like to have it at his feet.

He seems a genuine and nice lad so it even makes me feel guilty to criticise him but he isn’t a good footballer. I don’t think he’d stand out in the league below and I thought he was very out of his depth last season in the championship. Captaincy hasn’t improved him.

I think a move away from Sunderland could be beneficial for him and our club tbh.

How's the striker you beat us to in the summer done? I know he's not played much, but has he shown anything? The lad from cheltenham

I like Honeyman, he's a 100% trier but a bit small for central midfield, not quite quick enough for right wing and not really skilful enough for number 10. He can play all those positions to some extent though so as a utility squad player that may yet develop a bit he could actually be a useful signing for the right money. For us he's one of five quite diminutive players competing for what should really only be one spot so I'd, slightly reluctantly, let him go with my best wishes.

This. The lad has done his best this season. It wasn't really good enough tbf but I'm not going to slag him off for that.

Good post, JR playing him as a weird version of a number 10 has really affected his form. GH doesnt really have a role to be honest but looks much better wide, always gives everything he has and i find a lot of supporters attitudes towards him really poor
