Nothing major, it was more of an instinctive feeling. I just felt that he was a little bit patronising.

He kept stressing he was an equity investor - not a "wage slave" as he put it. It made me think he was a little unaware of his surroundings or Sunderland's economic climate, and it seemed a little disrespectful to his audience - many of whom would be reliant on jobs with low wages.

He talked about Sunderland being "his experiment" where the focus was more on "supporter get supporter" and building the community of the fanbase - which in fairness I have not got an issue with - but there has to be a realisation that there will ultimately be a correlation with the performance on the pitch.

I was also very conscious of him looking at his watch every few minutes.

I just did not warn towards him.

Probably would have been if we'd been dominant and vibrant and showed intent to go on and win. As we displayed the usual 'sit back and hang on grimly' tactics we've espoused since November everyone knew what was coming. It was inevitable, like Nigel Farage being a twat, or Rangers being the second biggest non footballing non-event in Glasgow. ;)
 
Just listened to the interview. What a clown Methven is like. Not really sure how he can get back on board with some fans after that.

I think we have a very nervous fan base and we (the fans) perform better when we are underdogs.

Must admit though that I’ve noticed a gradual change over the past decade or so. I remember being in an away crowd of 5k down at Bolton August 2009 and we were loud as fuck for the whole game.

Went to Coventry away earlier this season and for a similar size away crowd I thought we were pretty quiet.
 
Microphone shuffed in his face after the game so will have said somethings in the heat of the moment.

He’s right about the noise, they were far noisier than us and he’s right about how abject the performance was.

However, he’s bang out of order with regards to the attendance. It was 6 weeks after our last visit, we had less than a week to organise travel, accommodation and match tickets - even less than that for anyone in phase 3. Take a step back Charlie and think about what’s been asked of the fans this season, you asked for us to give you a chance and we’ve done that week in week out, don’t start having a pop at the fans as it only ever ends up one way.
 
Bloke is a bit of a tit. Nothing wrong necessarily with what he is saying but he is meant to be an owner of the club not some fan in the pub. We have just averaged 30k+ in the 3rd tier of football. To have a pop at the fans only 2 days after seems a bit rich considering the amount of fuck-ups we have seen this season from people closer to his door.
 
The crowds we’ve got this season have been nothing short of phenomenal. The fans are the last people who should be criticised. I don’t think the atmosphere was that bad anyway but I couldn’t give a flying fuck to be honest. There’ll be fans in their 80’s who’ve sang their hearts out in all the time they’ve supported this club and for their efforts they’ve had 1 major trophy and 5 top 10 finishes in the top flight.

Charlton fell apart after the goal for a good 15 mins, their heads went completely. Any team worth their salt would have gone for the kill. Us....nope, one grass cutter from 30 yards was all we could muster. It was pathetic to watch.

These two are beginning to look out of their depth IMO. I'd rather they just kept quiet.

You think? So the tension of fans in the ground, fans getting on players cases after a misplaced pass etc doenst feed through and create tension on the pitch? I think fans lack of belief does cause problems.

I don't think he is. I just think he is the worst type of fan. No matter what, it's not the club's fault. Owner, manager or players. Just blind.

Us as fans are beyond any form of criticism. The support that team have received this year has been astonishing. Watching 19 draws and f***ing shite football on the 3rd tier of English football FFS. 30k average attendance. It's superb.

I definely believe lack of belief was key.

Even when we were pushing at the top it was top 6 at worst and some fans happy with just being afloat. Was Charlie himself saying that & Donald saying 'we've got next year too'. Imo saying things like that reduces the intensity day to day

Bit of an odd interview like, suggesting Charlton are as big a club as us (seemingly specifically because they had more fans at Wembley and entirely ignoring the fact they had low attendances at the start of the season so effectively just had a lot of day trippers). Also mentioning the fans being quiet (can't really argue, although I'd argue that the football served up didn't exactly help). He divides opinion a bit so will be interesting to see how this one goes down

For a PR man, he certainly comes out with a lot of rash statements that are only going to greatly piss off his target demographic.
