We only had 24 thousand there for the Semi final against Man Utd they had 6thousand,, but every one wanted a ticket for the finalI felt the same when we didn’t sell out against Everton in the FA cup quarter final and of course against Man Utd in the league cup semi final.
Our fans, including season ticket holders, seem to have an aversion to buying tickets for one-off games, unless they are at Wembley or against the Mags.
I’m not sure either about the argument that we are playing crap at the moment. It’s a play-off semi-final, our chance to support the team and put pressure on the players and for that matter the officials. What difference does it make whether we are playing well or badly at the time, it is an excuse.
Don't know about " huge" percentage, but some people drop off easilyA huge percentage of our fans are shyte, bollocks to this best fans in the land malarkey.
Looking like it will be {excluding Cup games}Could actually turn out to be our lowest gate of the season

No, but you must realise it's a lot different. A lot of people wouldn't be able to afford that journey, or get the time off work for such a journey on a Thursday. The game on Saturday is at a great time, close for most Sunderland supporters and is a massive game, can't understand someone who would go to a pub in the town centre rather than get themselves over to the SoL!

Can't argue with this , Kent to Sunderland is a hell of a trip , I've moaned about walking 20 minutes from Fitzgerald's to the ground before , me and my mates got a late train out of London after the game with an exile who lived in Ramsgate or Margate , top lad who must live on the train at weekends ,This is what classes yourself as a 'fan'
I live in Sunderland and was in two minds, I got a ticket in the end as I'm not to keen on the football on show and not feeling ower confident, but had I been in doubt still after reading this post I'd definitely be heading over to get my ticket...
Also il be fckd if I'm letting these horrible fckrs have their own way....
If in doubt and can make it get there, most of all than any time this season whoever takes to the field are gonna need our support.
I'm not sure it will be much lower. There is a decent chunk of people who buy a season ticket who have no intention of going to extra games as they just aren't that arsed by it.Will be much lower that this match. If we don’t go up large chunk will drift away. Clappers don’t accept it but it will happen.
I can’t remember how many they had there but they would of been entitled to 15% of capacity ie c7000Didn't like
So by your definition someone who buys a single ticket and thus gives financial support is a supporter. Agreed?Yeah, I mean the classic example of fanaticism in common parlance would be religious fanatics - how many of those lunatics do you think actually go to church every week and/or support their religion by chipping in and sticking a few quid in the collection box for their church? Fanaticism is really just about being overly zealous about something, which you can easily do these days without ever actually leaving the house - there’s nothing to say you can’t be both a fanatic *and* a supporter, but, there’s still a distinction in terms of the actual definitions, - and anyway, once a fanatic actually spends money they become a ‘supporter’ but it’s not a given (also very bored at work).
Read my post above.
They were spread all the way around right past the North West Corner to a few blocks in the Premier ConcourseDidn't like
I think the way we fell apart over the last 7 games will put people off, like you say if we'd been going into the playoffs with a bit momentum that might be different. Season ticket holders having to sort out getting tickets is probably an extra clart many could have done with out.Still some time to go, but based on where we are now, I think 30,000 is a stretch. It could be lower than our lowest league gate of 27,500. At this level that is still a pretty good gate, but I'm really surprised at how many people are apparently choosing to duff it. (Obviously excludes people who simply cant be there, goes without saying really)
The frustration of just falling short of the top 2 positions, particularly with 2 or 3 weak performances in the run in is understood and shared. But on the basis that we want to progress we could do with as many supporters as we can get there to get behind the team. The atmosphere at the recent Doncaster and Pompey games was great and the performances matched this.
£20 isn't a bad price and as pointed out we had to charge it under EFL regulations. We were charged every time for our previous play off games and I cant remember people bitching too loudly about it then. Maybe if we had gone in with some positive momentum then IMO people wouldn't have complained about the money.
Some people above have suggested we have shit fans. That evidently is not true, but I do think we have a sizeable number who are more the floating voter types, get caught on a wave of optimism and will boost the numbers as and when. They will also find reasons not to go when things are a bit more shaky. Despite the mediocre end to the season, I honestly thought we would be knocking on 40,000 for this.
Oh aye and its on live in the pub on a Saturday night
