Rolex Watches

Not for me. Too many crappy copies.

Omega Seamaster would be my watch of choice.
I was sitting in the comrades club in the mid eighties wearing a real gold raljex watch purchased by a mate in the army from cypress when some bell housing pipes up and says that's not a real rolex!!
No fuckin shit, sherlock! £40k rolex when i paid 30k for a 3 bedroomed house. I was on a couple of hundred a week wages at the time :eek:

everyone always presumes Rolexes are fake so not sure why you would get a real one. Everyone will think it's a fake and laugh at you behind your back. Get an Omega instead.
Bollocks.

That’s like saying “the BNP have appropriated the St George flag so I’m not flying it or displaying it anywhere in case anyone thinks I’m a bigoted racist.”

If you like the watches and can afford them without pissing away your retirement funds then go and get one and bollocks to whatever other people think.

If you’re sixteen years old and work in a call centre and still live in your Mams house in Pennywell it may be a bit of a stretch to convince anyone you paid north of $5k for a name brand watch.

If you’re an old geezer with a decades long career and make enough to cover Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and then some, why would anyone think you’re sporting a fake? And why would you care?

Yeah I get your point but it must be the most copied brand in the world. I just think they’ve become synonymous with fakes.

See I knew there would be a tiny corner of common ground in the Venn diagram of our respective tastes!

I had a white face one. Flipped it later but still have some mild regret. Nice bit of kit

:) I’ve Just drawn the Venn diagram and it’s borderline, but your beer towels and my selvedge jeans seem to overlap

Why move that one one?

Aside from a Quartz Tag 1000 diver I got in 1990 it was my first name brand watch. I had a strong compulsion to get a platinum Yachtmaster but ‘settled’ for the Explorer. I got it for a song and ended up flipping it for a YM anyway after a couple of years.
At the time the GMT function was barely useful to me (I thought it would be cool to set it on England time but it’s not exactly hard to add five hours!) but since I move through time zones a lot on my job I could really use that function now. I’ve got my name down on a waiting list for a ceramic Pepsi but it may be several months before I get one.

Do they? I guess that depends where you live or who you are. Or whether you give a shit!

I think the bigger point is, if you buy a posh watch, buy it for yourself, not to impress people.

Easy to tell a genuine tbh. Usually the sapphire glass and overall quality will be immediately visible.

Awful investment

It’s a watch for life can be worn daily as they are pretty bomb proof and still look brand new and never lose value you will easily get back what you paid for it in the 2nd hand market or its something to pass down to ur kids when you pop your clogs
Lot of people spend couple hundred every few year on run of mill watches so over 20 years have probably spent much more than you would pay for Rolex but only have a drawer full of crap watches they never wear

I just like the look of some of them, some are hideous too. Not that I'll ever drop that sort of money on a watch unless I win the lottery

I'm tempted to get a Tag Heuer on 1 of those 60 month interest free plans from AMJ Watches like. Best I have at the minute is Seiko/Citizen

Tag make some really nice watches, just be wary of their entry level stuff. They have quartz watches at £1500 which frankly is mental.

You can get a decent Tag F1 automatic for £1200-1300 if shop around. The Monaco is a lovely watch, but that is a lot more expensive.

As I posted earlier, I have the Omega speedmaster MoonWatch and it’s cracking. The packaging alone, must be worth a good few quid.

Love watches but prefer the look of Breitling. Currently own 2, an avenger hurricane 50mm for weekends and a navitimer 01 for smarter occasions. I'm aware I will of lost a few quid on the new price but they will still hold a decent value and will be passed on to my boy should I crock it!
