home fans should be behind both goals, particularly the North stand, which is bigger and has the Black Cats Bar 'underneath'. away fans should be in one of the corners, either NE or SE... at worst in the NW corner.

if you put away fans above home fans then you should expect trouble, especially when it's full. it's really as simple as that.

As other posters have pointed out, even the Mags and Millwall have not stooped the depths of the coventry supporters last weekend. Failure by Northumbria's finest to take any action has undoubtedly led those scum to think they could do what they liked with impunity.

The risk will always be there though and the club has a duty of care to protect all supporters attending games to the best of their ability. i agree that stewards/police could have done more but if you remove the risk then it's one less that you have to worry about.

Ridiculous restrictions like that would only be reciprocated when we go away tho. There's no need for pubs to be home only. Just better prepared.

Mate, some clubs already implement the changes which I stated when Sunderland visit (particularly no booze at half time) and it’s fine.

Ulimately, when we play games with an increased risk of trouble, it should be communicated that all pubs immediately near the ground (The tavern, hotel, those down Roker Ave and Bridge Street) are home fans only, but the SOL will sell beer. If away fans want a drink away from the SOL, they will need to go further afield and this often means smaller groups.

It's hardly contentious to say fans respond better when they have something to compete against vocally. The evidence is staring us in the face every week.

This indeed. There can’t be many other large grounds where away fans are unopposed vocally and no reactionary singing to each other’s songs.

Certainly a lot less agro after match currently. When they were in south stand there’d be battles in Sheepfolds every match.

I know what you are saying mate, but having spoken to a few people since Saturday, it’s fair to say you would have seen trouble even if they were in the lower bowl (perhaps more because we could have gotten to them).

It’s reallt not unfair to say that the majority of Coventry fans at the SOL on Saturday were looking for/happy to see trouble. Quite simply, they are the worst away support the club has probably ever seen.

That's an amazing response like. And fair play and huge credit to them for it.

The bit I find amazing is that they had not foreseen the risk for this happening one day and thus had a planned response in place. Surely they play through different scenarios and plan accordingly - crisis simulation.
There is nothing new in football stadiums, plenty of examples to learn from before something happens.
To their credit, they are facing up beng honest being accountable and not brushing it under the carpet. For that I respect and thank them

On this place on Saturday night mate, I was perhaps the most critical of the club. Having, however, spoken to a few people since the event, I’m content the club did everything it could in the lead up to the game.

They were in regular contact with Coventry and their fans groups, but what no one expected was; Coventry brought the worst away support ever seen at the SOL (and I include Celtic in that). I imagine more info will come out over time, but it sounds like the club, stewards and police had one hell of a time controlling those scumbags.

Serious questions need to be asked about the Coventry support, but hopefully the club will just die and we can forget about them.

No I totally agree mate it was all a shambles, but obviously their response to it is a bit top drawer. Just a shame it had to come to this.

Agree with most of this, however I don't agree 'you should expect trouble' if the away fans are above home fans. Plenty of clubs have away fans up above without any bother. This could have easily been stopped before it got anywhere near as bad as it did if the police had bothered their arses to do something as soon as it started.

If it was up to me I'd leave them where they are (with better safety measures obviously) but wouldn't be bothered if they were put in a corner. I really can't understand anyone wanting them back in the South Stand, especially after all the work that has gone on there and the flags etc. I love that we now kick towards our own fans for the full 90 minutes. Bring the away fans back downstairs by all means but no way should they be behind either goal.

The set up is exactly like it is at the mags. Do their fans sit in silence whilst aways sing all game? Everyone on here reckons the away fans are really loud at our place so why isn't it sparking off those who need away fans to compete against to sing?

I think part of it at our place is the proximity of the metal roof to the away fans. The sound waves will bounce off that and carry down to ground level. That’s why it doesn’t take many fans up there to create a lot of noise.

The Mags sell 95% of their home tix, have concessions next to away supporters, and have at least three established singing areas (Gallowgate, Strawberry corner and L7 corner). We all look toward the South Stand and expect them to bring all the atmosphere.

The away fans need moving. It's that simple really. Can't see a downside.

According to Steve Neill during our phone call, he advised that the number of arrests has fallen massively due to the away fan move. He accepted that there would be an increase in throwing incidents due to where they are, but stated that this was massively offset by the inability to interact with the “lads” that typically seat themselves in the south west corner. Hard to have a fight if you have no one to fight with, and the top “divide” between the fans is easier to police, and the fans up in the PC aren’t the type that’ll be spoiling for a fight (typically).

I suspect it’s more due to location in the stadium. I sit in the north stand so am a whole stadium away from the south stand with the aways right above me, so all I’m likely to hear is the away fans.

Which should then, according to this place, spark off our supporters (who need supporters to compete with).

If you're hearing away fans why aren't you singing against them/in reaction to them?

Why don't others help with the atmosphere instead of wanting another stand to do it? Are are you saying many want to enjoy an atmosphere rather than add to it or help create it? In fairness that's the impression I get, even from some who moved to the south stand.
