RIP Sammy.

My favourite story was from one of the older lads, walking over the Trent bridge, a load of Forest stop a small group of Sunderland (including Sammy). Forest say they’re going to throw our lads in the river. Sammy says he’ll flip a coin to decide the outcome. As the coin is flying in the air and everyone watching it. The first Forest lad is dropped cold.

Our lads took a bit of a kicking ..... but they all stayed dry.

Great days that can't be explained to those who weren't there.

Sadly it doesn't stop them trying to pull it all down.

Happily memories that will never die until we all join Sammy, wherever he's gone ;)

RIP Sammy Like many i recall the 70s when Sammy was King of the Fulwell, WBA away lives in my memory when him and another ran the full lenght of the pitch and jumped in their end (sure it was match of the day )
A true character of the days when we all stuck together singing in the fulwell If your going to whoever we played next clap your hands and in sticky situations in away end when we leave we all leave together etc.
RIP the king of the FULWELL

D.Jopling was Celtic, quite a large chubby lad with long hair, then one weekend became a skin.
Always wore a celtic scarf.
Was in the RK,Billy Buttons days.
From suddick,marley potts area
I used to get on the safcsa coach with Celtic and his mates Sheff wed away some lads were getting attacked off sheff wed he ordered everyone off to help the lads, He did clip me once when I laughed at him as he trippedover on the coach . still good days

Apart from one or two rucks in Tiffs or the Rink, the lads stuck together where SAFC were concerned home and away we took over many places on the journey through time, we had many faces in those days carried on through the casuals to some extent but nothing like it now I think, but then again I’m getting on and don’t travel rarely .

Just been reminded by one of my mates the time, late 70s where Sammy was on the stage at the bluebird club at ninian park singing tell Laura I love her.

Motley crew of safc in that day being growled at by an equally motley crue of Cardiff fans. Think it was the day that the game kicked off at 1pm or so because of the rugby

Frankie Wheatley and slosher were there

Cardiff fan had a tattoo on his throat - blue dotted line with “please cut here” written along it

Remember that day now. Real eye opener. It was like the cantina scene from Star Wars
Remember that day well, warned by the landlord to keep a low profile as it would soon be filling up with Cardiff lads .It soon did and it became very lively .Sammy went on the big terrace with the Cardiff lads we played safe and went on the terrace next to the players tunnel, needless to say he was the only one to receive a hammering. It was early 70s probably about 71-72 season.

A brilliant day out that like.
A few fine animals on the pic along with Sammy- Berti O, Billy D., Tommy L., Spug from Houghton next to Sammy, the lad with nee front teeth next to Tommy was called "Mer" IIRC, I am at the back somewhere -

I'm sure I heard a story about Sammy being released from Her Majesty's somewhere down south and being put on a train back to Sunderland. As soon as he got there he jumped on another train back down south 'cos Sunderland were playing away! It might have been somebody else, but I'm sure I was told it was him.
