SA Tour 2019/20

Anyone got any tips where to stay in CT? I've looked at accommodation around Newlands but it's canny expensive. I've seen there's a train line/station next to the ground so will probably stay further away and get the train to the match each day.

I could try and dig out the details of a lad we stayed with there in 09 if you want. Millwall fan, lived in a gated community.

Holiday Inn Loop Street is bang on for Cape Town Railway Station

Bit much for me on me todd, £100-odd quid a night. Did see a decent hotel close by for £350 for nine days so might gan for that so cheers for the info. If I'm staying in a hotel it'll be near Loop Street.
Yes mate. It’s relative to the station and the pubs on Long Street so all good.

Be fucked if I'm staying in a hostel like. Would rather pay a bit more and have my own room rather than share a dorm. Air B&B only usually cost effective if there's more than one of you.

Yeah fair point mate, worth looking though, had rooms in houses before that were completely private and didn't feel lik you were in someones home, can be good crack too sometimes

It's shit that the Barmy Army have taken down their forum, people used to club together via that.

I can't find that email address but have asked another lad from the 09 trip if he has it. Hopefully he's still alive and kicking like!

Stayed in a homestay in Sri Lanka last year and it was superb. One of the best places I've ever been tbh. Run by an Aussie couple and completely changed my perception of the convicts as a people tbf. The only one's I'd met before that were boorish wankers.

I think the cheap travel tips must have impacted on their overpriced tours.

I agree. It was a mine of information for doing it independently.

Just booked an en suite room in a guesthouse in Newlands, probably a mile walk to the ground.
Booked it for £120 for the 5 nights on booking.com
The handy thing is I can cancel it free of charge until December 19th.

Loads and loads of places already booked out, I assume partly due to the cricket and part due to SA peak holiday season and school holidays.

I would recommend anyone thinking of booking to do so now, before the surge of bookings when the cricket dates are formally finalised.
Nothing to lose if you can refund it.
Have joined booking.com which gives loads of so called " genius" discounts.

Yes mate , the likes of Owzat travel book out loads of rooms.
They had 950 punters over the course of the WI tour.

Quick heads up.

Thomas Cook appears to be selling packages for a 2 Test Tour.

They say
PE 26-30 December
And Cape Town
3-7 January.

I had already booked CT, and have just booked 5 nights in PE...

Refundable until 10th December

Suggest anyone else going does the same before the stampede starts...

You can always cancel/change later.

It is a bit difficult to find, but there is a TripAdvisor thread and the last post suggests that you google
"2019/20 South Africav England - 2 Test Tour (Port Elizabeth & Cape Town"

Only doing the CT test and will be travelling independently. £600 flight and £300 accommodation. What's the cost of the TC package?
