Selling a domain name

Someone from Dubai once offered to buy my Twitter handle. He got properly arsey when I wouldn't sell and told me I wasn't popular enough or famous enough to have it.
As a negotiating tactic it wasn't the best approach so I told him it wouldn't be fair on my fans and ended the negotiations.

The money you are talking about I wouldn't hand around on it at all
I'm a little slow - could you elaborate?

Sounds crazy to do anything other than counter offer.

How big was the increase between their first and 2nd offer? (In %s if you don't want to disclose actual numbers)

Go back to them asking for at least the same again. Domain names are vital in online businesses and when some of the businesses are going for hundreds of millions/billions an extra £100k for a domain may be peanuts to them.

The increase was 300%

I wonder if it’s a broker making the offer , rather than someone who’s seriously interested in buying it ?

Doesn’t sound right to me , and it’s not April 1st. either.
It is a broker representing an undisclosed client. The broker is a well known and respected company with many references and employees

It's not just for vanity mind, even if Google have changed their SEO.
Someone told me that the fact that it is very old in internet terms (registred early) made it more valuable

For those of us curious / nosy. Upon completion will you be willing to disclose what it was?

Good luck with it mate.
If I'm allowed to, yes

I’d negotiate the price with equity. Good luck mate
Not sure what you mean by this? I won't know who the buyer is before I've sold it

Depends how much they want it, do they have other options do you reckon? Fine line between coining it in and being too greedy so they pull the plug!

The broker said they were looking at other options and might never come back when he contacted me the first time, so obviously that's either just bs or they really want/need it.

What I don't really understand is why they don't just buy the .net domain for next to nothing instead.

But thanks to everybody for their input - I'll accept the offer unless my solicitor advices me differently when we see the contract.

You should buy the .net domain for next to nothing yourself. Just to be on the safe side...

.net is never as popular as a .com

cash in mate and enjoy it!

Yep, there are hundreds of ranking factors but when it was registered is one of them. Not sure how that works with a transfer of ownership mind. Not sure it would make it that much more valuable either. Sounds like you've got a decent domain name on your hands though, hope you do well from it.

What is the domain name like?

Is the company big who is wanting to buy it?

If they really need it you may be onto a canny earner depending on their turnover
