Facebook full of Mags crowing because we signed Grigg and they've 'broke their transfer record, signing a world class player'. :)
This the world class player who is 25 years old, has a 1 in 3 record in the MLS, a dreadful record in Argentina, has never played in a remotely decently league and has 10 caps for Paraguay...25m, and nobody has heard of him. Literally nobody. He's from Paraguay and there'll be Paraguayan football fans who don't know much about him :)
It's like crowing because you're a PL club, breaking your transfer record to sign George Honeyman.

I’m putting my hand up here and saying I have heard of him because West Ham have signed him on my Football Manager save. Canny player actually.

Unfortunately he's a very good player and should suit the Premier League. Hes absolutely class on Footy Manager as well tried to sign him for Sunderland for a few seasons and he signed for Barcelona. Footy Manager is usually fairly accurate on judging players.

Jozy Altidore can score for fun in that league.

Case closed.

Fair enough. But then why is he 25, playing in the USA (with an ordinary record), and barely played for a rank average national side? If you look at his career, it doesn't scream 'PL club record signing', it screams '6 month loan to Bristol City'.

Of course...

I'm bemused as to why they would break the club record to sign a player who's record (which ever way you look at it) is hardly breathtaking, who's playing in a league where good, old PL players go to pick up their final pension instalments and plays in a position that even someone who doesn't have a massive interest could see isn't perhaps the mags most desperately in need of strengthening. Or a meringue.

It's an enormous gamble by Rafa and Big Mike must have been out of the country when permission was given to sign this off. If he's such an undiscovered gem why aren't any of the London clubs linked with him or any one in Spain?

Bloke on sky said he helped both teams win their league and was class.

He's signed for the scotch (please note diminutive lower case) ergo he is shite. Put another way, he is shite, ergo he's signed for the scotch (please etc.). Some mistakenly believe this is a syllogism but, in reality, it's simple deductive reasoning.
Ooph, Keef is on SSN spouting utter shite about the very player. Introducing him (Keef) to the equation could result in a syllogism, which could prove a tad embarrassing for arl concerned, not least me!
Plus, it's snaing! Huzzah!

No idea why posters are talking about Almiron in the same breath as strikers?

He doesn't play up front, he is a creative midfielder and to be fair is a very tidy player (MLS level or not) and Atlanta played some superb football under Tata last season.

He moved to the MLS and was a DP so was getting huge wages, it's an attractive league for South American players.

Newcastle probably paid over the odds, but sure every other club in England bar Spurs has been doing that time and time again.

I like taking the piss out of the Mags as much as anyone, but when the majority on here never saw the player play before it's a bit silly to dismiss him isn't it?
