There are a few problems with this, I think, Dave, la. First, buying such a player, at whatever price, is no guarantee of promotion. Anything can happen. He might not cut the mustard, he might get injured & so on. Second, we then have the problem of, effectively, being in "negative equity" with the player i.e. he's worth less than we paid, meaning we sell at a loss. Another spoke in an altogether too familiar wheel that's be circling around our club for far too long. Third, as I said in my earlier post, we send the message that the piss take party remains in full swing at SAFC, that nothing's changed & we are still easy meat. There will doubtless be other reasons if I put the owld thinking cap on but that'll dee for now, marra.

Meet their valuation or offer for other players, we aren't in a situation where we can risk it by taking it to the last day imo. Beside there are plenty of players out their. Although we aren't being very imaginative in our search (beyond league one that is).

Add on to that that because of the parachute payments, then so long as gates don't fall off a cliff, not going up doesn't actually cost much at all, just as going up doesn't get us much extra. It puts us a season further away from the PL, but realistically, I don't think a double promotion is really on the cards. What is important is to get out of L1 by the end of next season.

Apparently we were told they wanted £1m. We’ve met that and even gone beyond but they’re seemingly changing the goal posts

Not sure how true any of that is mind, just what’s being said :lol:;)

If I've been following the various reports correctly, it seems that they continually move the goalposts. You can't negotiate with people like that. If it falls short of plain dishonesty, it suggests bad faith at best, in my view.

Wasn't there not reports that we were doing it in instalments with goal bonuses etc & they wanted it all upfront. Either way they know they have all the cards & are pulling our pants down

There's no rush for this season. I'm not chucking in the towel & I'd love us to do it this season, but in some ways I can see that next season would give us a much cleaner start than this. The new regime has done a lot of the necessary "dirty work" this season that won't need to be repeated. It's possible we'd be better equipped for the step up anarl....

It doesn’t work like that man.

We sent Sinclair back when we did because there was a deadline and to be fair, we’ve clearly been trying to get Grigg but Wigan are trying to get more money out of us.
