Club finances

Well, I'm going off what Dowie has said on the podcast mate, I can see Wigan wanting as much as they can possibly get as they hold the cards but if we've put 4 bids in then surely we must be there or there abouts.

Wigan will of course look to bring someone else in if/when Grigg leaves, maybe they are having problems with the price of players just as much as we are.
If we haven't met their valuation then we haven't met their valuation. Whether their valuation is realistic or not is up to them, but there's no there or thereabouts about it.

Methven said losses were likely to be “at least £10-12m, excluding exceptional items.” Those exceptional items would include, amongst other things, the further liability that may arise from the ongoing Ricky Alvarez court case.

Reports have proliferated that the club expects to reduce its operating losses to £5m this season, but he pointed out that is instead the ‘annualised’ loss position they expect to find themselves in at the end of this season. In layman’s terms, they expect to get monthly operating losses (i.e. before player trading) down to around £400k, which will then translate to an annual loss of £5m.

When will people finally take the hint that we aren’t going to be splashing millions of pounds we don’t have on players we can’t afford?

One poster earlier this evening put it; ‘what’s the point of bringing in money if it isn’t reinvested in the squad?’

Any discussion about finances is lost on loads of people.

That we've overpaid... I got the jist of his post
Have we? Only time will tell.

1.5 rising to 4 is a reasonable deal as to make the "overpayment" we'll need to do well.

Some were saying give Maja another million which would have been overpaying him

The fact we've gone back with 6 bids is a fair indication of the difference between his perceived value and what we've ended up paying. Turned out exactly as I predicted.
Or we went in with lowball offers to bein with thinking he was surplus to requirements.

So, how much did we pay for him then???

Somewhere between 1.5m and 4m.

Its turned out exactly as I predicted. You'd do as well to just acknowledge that.

Going in with half an hour of the cut off to go, with an offer they've bitten our hands off for after a whole month of messing around. No doubt we've ended up overpaying, given the amount of knock backs we got elsewhere yesterday.

Sorry pal but you have absolutely no idea (neither to I) on what was paid or what the negotiations consisted of, or what other deals were possibilities, or what the internal dialogue within the club was etc etc etc

Stop trying to be a clever shite, it’s dull and sad

Why did you say "let's see" yesterday morning then, but now it hasn't turned out how you thought you've decided there's nothing to see?

I said what i thought would happen, and it turns out correctly.

Just hope Grigg hits the ground running (once he's fit), the position we've been left in by a month of inactivity means we don't have the time or the games to waste now to get back in the top 2.
