Short has agreed to pay at least half of any further Alvarez liability. CM might have forgotten to mention it but the Don didn't.

The key as we all know, is to get rid/sell, the big earners - Catts, AM and Oviedo. That would make a huge difference to the outgoings on wages but sadly, it ain't gonna happen.

The new owners unloaded several big earners over the past few months. Several contracts ended in the summer and they've shifted on Rodwell, N'Dong and Papy. We sold Khazri, McNair and Asoro for around £13M. We spent less than £3M on players over the summer.

We probably only have 2 players who are now on more than £20K a week and their contracts are expiring and we still have our last parachute payment of around £16M next season. This is in comparison to the about £7M a season a Championship club receives from TV rights.

We aren't cash rich but we certainly aren't in a bad place financially in comparison to the majority of teams in the Championship and above.

We have a choice now of spending a couple of million to try to guarantee promotion or spend less than £500K and get the odd loan in and try to get promotion that way. It's a tough choice but I'd go for the former.

I doubt Matthews is on >£20k a week. Probably more like half of that. He'll have taken a cut when we were relegated from the Premier League.

We signed McGeady from Everton when we were in the Championship and he'd been surplus to requirements for about 2 seasons. I'm not sure what sort of cash we'd be offering but we had already tightened our belts by that stage.

We only signed Matthews for £2M. I wouldn"t imagine he'd be on huge money especially as most players signed in the Premier League were on a 40% reduction after relegation.

Obviously you maybe privvie to their contracts, I'm just guessing.

McGeady would've had a wage cut after relegation last season too.

I'd strongly advise you to listen to the owners last two podcasts he will confirm it. Besides if you believe McGeady and Matthews are on less than 20 grand, then youl not be offended if I call you ' extremely naive'

Depends on the terms, I don’t suppose we’re in a position to pay up his contract. Probably be easier to shift him nearer to the end of his contract in that regard but he has 18 months left to run. Lot of wedge in wages.

Matthews will have had a cut when dropping from PL.

Likewise McGeady from CH to L1.

They will be on higher wages than the rest but not at the levels of Catts or Oviedo who were signed for decent PL fees and good contracts to get them here / keep them here in Catts' case.

If you listen to the latest podcast, the last two offers were around what Wigan were asking for.

Wigan are either stringing us along to get more money or are wanting a replacement in first before letting him go.....probably both.

Well, I'm going off what Dowie has said on the podcast mate, I can see Wigan wanting as much as they can possibly get as they hold the cards but if we've put 4 bids in then surely we must be there or there abouts.

Wigan will of course look to bring someone else in if/when Grigg leaves, maybe they are having problems with the price of players just as much as we are.
