Looks like he will be playing at a lower level than we are at now if it's correct what their manager is saying, their U23's in some poor standard league.

Got to back yourself at highest level though mate. It's not like he's going to someone like Ipswich for more money.

I think you've got to pick the team not the league to an extent

Bordeaux get a highly rated young player they could potentially sell back to England in a few year for a profit and earn more than they would be just getting in 1.5 million now, which is very little so it could be a great deal for them. The manager has no idea who is is so clearly hasn’t targeted him and his agent was reported to want him to go to Germany.

More to this than meets the eye imo.
So how would they get the agent/Maja to agree to it, end up some where they don’t want to be and forfeit their free agent signing on fee?

Maybe I don’t get what you’re implying.

If Bordeaux benefit from getting ‘a great deal’ and a good player, we get a fee (regardless of where it’s offset) and the player/agent are complicit then isn’t that just a regular transfer and not some great conspiracy?

Well it came from nowhere to us mate, but his agent may have been talking to them for months for all we know.

just seems a bit suss that we happen to owe them money, he just happens to end up going there of all places, manager has literally no idea who the lad is etc.. once it became apparent he wasn't signing a new deal just think we may have had a bit more to do with this than we are led to believe

not that it matters like. we owed them the money anyway

Not think it's strange to go to Bordeaux when we owe them a legacy payment for Whabster?

Good move for maja to be fair, hope we have a sell on percentage in there in case he comes good although at the moment im not sure how far he can go in the game

As long as our owners knew we had an outstanding debt to Bordeaux for Khazri ahead of the window then I’m not concerned.

They will have needed to budget for settling up with them regardless of whether he signed for Bordeaux or anyone else. I can see that they might not necessarily have had to pay Bordeaux the balance in this window but this transfer clears it regardless.

In the absence of competing clubs in this country making higher bids we’ve secured the best deal we can for a lad who has scored goals for us but doesn’t want to be here any more.

As others have said it’s a very important
week for the owners and management team.

It seems that we might be looking at more than one or two. Leadbitter, Grigg, possibly the Turkish lad at Bolton, another striker in the mould of Moore/Eaves and hopefully an absolute unit in centre mid.

Good luck to them, hope it goes well.

Doesn’t work like that payment might have been budgeted for summer

As said in the articles it will mean our financial position won’t change and we won’t be in a better position after this deal
Understand what you’re saying but we are in a better position for selling now rather than wait until the summer. 1.5M + add ons or effectively zero in 6 months time.
Even if payment was due in summer, that now disappears which can can allow for money to be spent now.

not sure why it's been fed to RR that the Maja money is effectively nothing due to the outstanding payment for Khazri

makes you wonder if that's why it's Bordeaux he's gone to
If he didn’t want to go there why wouldn’t we/he just find another club that would pay the same amount then that could be used to pay the Bordeaux liability?

The offsetting has no effect for our finances apart from us losing out on cash flow.

We might not be better off if we don’t replace him. Could easily be the difference between promotion or not.

You do realise that either way, that makes us £1.5 million better off? If we got that £1.5 million from another club, we’d still have owed the fee for Khazri.

Weren't the parachute payments covering legacy fees though. We also received a legacy fee for PVA, 200k for players going to World Cup, over 5 mill for Paddy, 2.5 for Asoro.
